I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Congressional Republicans were dealt a setback Thursday in their attempt to punish Democrats in swing districts for voting for climate change legislation in the House last week.

WDBJ-TV, a Roanoke television station, will not air a National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) ad attacking freshman Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.), citing factual inaccuracies, according to Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee communications director Jen Crider. A source familiar with the station's decision confirmed Crider's account; WDBJ general manager Jeff Marks confirmed that the ad would not run, but declined to say why.

"The ad is not running, be we have not characterized why that is," said Marks. "We don't characterize why an ad is not running. We looked into the complaints [from national Democrats], but other than saying that, you really need to find out from the NRCC."

An NRCC source said that Democrats are mischaracterizing the station's decision. "One station has temporarily pulled the ad. The station manager has also informed us that he plans to notify the DCCC about their mischaracterization of what exactly has transpired. The ad is still set to run on the other stations in the local market," said the source.

Marks said the station has made no public statement saying that it rejected the ad for factual reasons. He confirmed that he notified Democrats that he had made no public statements about the ad. He did not reject the assertion that the ad was pulled because it was inaccurate, declining to comment instead.

Earlier, the nonpartisan organization FactCheck.org called the ad "wrong."

Adjudicated FactCheck:

The ad says the bill will result in lost jobs and cost "middle class families" $1,870 a year. That sounds pretty dire, until you consider that this week we posted an item about the Office of the Republican Whip Eric Cantor's claim that the same bill would "impose a national energy tax of up to $3,100." So is the cost of the legislation going down? Did the NRCC make a mistake in its math?

Hardly. While it may seem curious that House Republicans would flog two different cost figures for the proposed legislation, it is indicative of the difficulty in determining how a cap on carbon emissions could affect Americans' electricity bills. The NRCC ad credits a Washington Times editorial for its claim that the Waxman-Markey bill would make electricity prices "skyrocket," costing families $1,870 a year. But the NRCC is wrong.

Here's the ad:

One of the myriad problems with the GOP these days, is that even their clueless base of children is beginning to recognizing the fact that in spite of the GOP's endless series promises about how cutting taxes for the rich will end up actually help them, the little people, nothing ever comes of it.
When St. Reagan tried it in the ealry 80's it didn't work.
In fact, Reagan's successor the Non-AWOL Coward Bush was forced to impliment the single largest tax increase in US History in spite of his "Read My Lips...No New Taxes" promise/lie!
President Cheney tried Trickle Down again and look what happened; the hyper-rich got richer at the expense of the rest of us.

This latest lie filled ad is just another example of the vileness of the confederate GOP.
They are, in a very real sense, no different than al Qeada!

Are Y'ALL seeing the pattern yet?
A Republican President tries Trickle Down...AGAIN!!
Trickle Down doesn't work...AGAIN!!
His successor has to be the adult and pay his bills!

I'm glad you're beginning to see the light.
There might be hope for your kind yet!

The GOP is playing its favorite game again; Dupe the dupes on the right.
They don't care if everything they say is patently untrue.
All they care about is getting their talking points to the clueless parrots in their base.
Now, for the next year I'll have to get in argument after argument with the boys on the right as they parrot this latest GOP flight of fancy!
It reminds me of my foavorite GOP fairytale; that Al Gore said he invented the internet.
Grown ups know Al Gore said nothing of the kind but hardly a week goes by when i don't hear some Fox-Kids watching child say "Al Gore said he invented the internet."
The GOP's motto: When the lie is more interesting than the truth...repeat the lie!
The children in the un-American GOP are what's really wrong with America.

As usual the Repugnants get it wrong, know they got it wrong, yet insist on spreading the lie(s) anyway.

Anything to scare the American public and keep the bought interests of the Repugnants by the monied lobbyists alive and well. After all, if the Repugants don't continue to spread the lies about energy and healthcare, how can the Repugnants ever hope to keep their campaign coffers filled by these lobbying groups so that the Repugnants can stay in office and keep getting rich while they cheat the public.

Wake up gopers VA is no longer a place like SC or Miss. The state has progressed very fast during the past 30 yrs and our citizens actually think and do not follow party dogma.

Republicans telling lies.....not being factual????? Oh come on, next you'll be telling me they aren't the moral party!! Oh, wait...............................
If it weren't for lies, there would be no republican ads and no republican party - they are based on lies. Brought us to war on lies. Lied Bush into office. Bush lied about his drunk driving arrests, his Vietnam service or lack thereof, etc.
Republicans lie and only fools believe them. That's why the republican party is dwindling.

As for the Global warming religionists eating crow, don’t count on it no matter how cold it gets.

Because you can never underestimate the ability of these people to lie. Remember there are trillions in $$ and a religion at stake.

The religionists are on the side of the anti-global warming. On one side you have thousands of scientists and scientific studies and on the other side you have a few crazy, flat earth types who haven't read the papers or even understand the concept. The rest are well-funded flacks of the oil, coal and power companies who want to put off dealing with the problem as long as possible.

Fact: Carbon Dioxide levels are higher than anytime in the last 600,000 years.
Fact: Carbon Dioxide is a green house gas. It blocks infrared radiation from returning to space.
Fact: Rising temperatures are causing methane to be released from the sea floor and permafrost layers.
Fact: Methane is many times more potent green house gas.
Fact: We are burning fossil fuel at an ever increasing rate.
Fact: The carbon that is released from fossil fuels was taken out of the atmosphere millions of years ago. In other words, millions of years worth of CO2 is being put back in the atmosphere over a few hundred years.... If you read the literature, it goes on and on.

a television station is like a newspaper or a magazine... they are private businesses so they can chose to refuse business if they want to...

you can in turn boycott the station if you are not happy with that policy...

personally i'm glad they won't broadcast blatant lies for money... shows they have a conscience...

Wow! Unbelieveable in America. I really never thought I would see the day when the media would even have an agenda much less would withhold legimate news stories or ads that opposed that agenda. Media should simply states the facts of a story...we shouldn't be able to tell what the opinions of the reporter are. What is going on?? It doesn't matter what your party affliation, that should be worrisome to everyone.

No, what's worrisome is when political parties out and out lie in an ad.

It's a paid ad packaged to look like news - not a news report and the supposed "facts" in the ad (such as the claim that the legislation will frive up family electric bills by $1870 per year) are proven LIES. The fact that you would take this advertisement as a news report proves that members of the viewing public are too ignorant to tell the difference. It's like the ads from the 1950's featuring doctors promoting the health benefits of certain brands of cigarettes. If you had been around back then you probably would have smoked yourself to death trying to get healthy. You wouldn't happen to be that woman who tried to sue the makers of Cap N Crunch cereal for fraud because after 3 years of eating the cereal you found out there was no such thing as crunch berries?

This has to be nipped in the bud. How the h.e.ll can we have elections if all the GOP ads are pulled for being baseless lies?

You dnon't know if they are baseless or l!es. All you know is the station didn't want to play them. Could be because the station has an agenda.

Or could be because there were "factual inaccuracies".

The claim that the family electric bills will be driven up by $1870 per year has been proven a lie - the research group whose report was used as a source for this claim by the GOP announced that the formula used to come up with that figure was flawed and in fact the figure would be $185 per year AT MOST. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, not to make up their own facts.

But your party is the one that claimed smoking didn't cause lung cancer?
Your party is also the one that claimed Ronald Reagan didn't negotiate with the hostage takers in Iran by giving them hundreds of millions of dollars worth of US weaponry...AKA Iran/Contra.
Your party claimed Iraq had WMDs!
Your party claimed that Hussein and bin Laden were in cahoots over the 9/11 attacks!
Your party preened that Brownie did a heck-of-a-job in the wake of Katrina!
Your party again claimes that tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans will help the economy!

Yeah, we're sure this ad is filled with baseless lies for one reason; it came from your party!

Don't say you weren't warned. The CAP AND TRADE program is scam! Notice the increase in commodity energy prices? Where do you think the extra money is going? Into those criminal, scheming, scamming, pockets who want a cap and trade trading market full of derivatives and exotic paper trades. It's like Bechtel

I assume that since Obama promised not to raise taxes for anyone who makes less than $250,000 year he will be vetoing this giant tax hike. Right, he keeps is promises? No increase in taxes right?

"Read My Lips...NO NEW TAXES!"
George H. W. Bush (the non-AWOL Coward one) said this right before he initiated the single largest tax increase in United States History to offset Ronald Reagan's silly and disastrous Trickel Down fairytale.

What bothers me most about non-enlisting Bushies like Kevie here is that they all think we're as dumb as they are.
Sorry Bushy, but real Americans have had just about all the righteous indignation from the hypocritical right we can handle for one lifetime.
Your filthy party cut taxes for billionaires while the sons and daughters of the lower and middle classes died in Iraq fighting for Halliburton's bottom line.
For the past 3 decades your filthy party has deregulated Wall Street so the filthy Robber Barron who work there could run rough shod over a once bustling US economy devastating the working class.
Now your party's new un-American policy is to ship good paying American jobs to our good pals in Pakistan and India and SOCIALIST China of all places.
Yet now you're tisk-tisking President Obama for trying to fix America by helping actual Americans?

Wow...just when you thought non-enlisting Bushies could sink no lower!!!

President Obama was talking about the federal income tax and you know it. Your assertion, just like every straw you pubs grasp for in an attempt to discredit President Obama even if it means driving this country further into ruin, is intentionally dishonest.
