NPR Ombudsman Refuses To Speak To Glenn Greenwald About Torture

Bloggasm:

Salon blogger Glenn Greenwald has rarely been one to avoid responding directly to his right wing critics. He's been on Hugh Hewitt' radio show on multiple occasions and has even appeared on Michael Savage's show. As an opinionated pundit, he believes that people like him should be willing to face off with others in public forums that are not always friendly to their views, and he finds those that avoid doing so "cowardly and irresponsible."

I agree. Also, check out http://www.democracynow.org/ (which is a part of Pacifica but has its own site)

In reading this piece, I got the sense that Greenwald was trying to elevate his platform by engaging NPR in a conflicted dialog. He engaged, she responded. He re-engaged and she let it go. Take a hint: she's just not that into you.

Or perhaps she is simply gutless.

I think it's really pathetic that my comments keep being censored for no reason. Seems pretty hypocritical when I'm commenting on a piece which predicates itself on the belief, "that people... should be willing to face off with others in public forums that are not always friendly to their views," and that avoiding it is "cowardly and irresponsible."

NPR had been part of the rethug echo chamber for a long time. I'm not surprised.

Something sucked the guts out of anti-military coverage during the run up to the Ira q w ar, and it was not all neo=con connections with corporate loot. I fear the Is rael lobby might have felt they had to weakn critical voices.

Hit 'em where it hurts!

contact npr!

Tell them that you will not donate again until the npr ombudsman is replaced with an honest ombudsman that will acknowledge the fact that waterboarding IS torture and torture is illegal!

I clicked on 'Contact an NPR department or service'

Then, Departments: 'Donor Support'

Name your local station(s) when you contact npr!

So will there be two sides to the reality of the Holocaust, and two sides to the question of adult-child s3x?
How about broadcasting the 'debate' on forcible r@pe as something women secretly desire?

Exactly. I'm sick of all these fake debates. Progressives really need to learn how to defeat these easily defeated debate tricks. Usually they're just flummoxed.

What's the strategy for defeating this debate trick? I would like to know since no one seems to be good at it.

On this morning's Weekend Edition Saturday (the 4th) there was a perfect example of NPR's dishonesty. They aired what sounded like an ad for Monsanto tarted up to seem like a sympathetic story in defense of family farmers. The report was a snide misrepresentation of the new documentary Food, Inc., suggesting that the movie is a diatribe against family farmers. The opposite is true.

I heard NPR actually state that there is a controversy that waterboarding is Torture or not and that its a political discussion. WTF? The US defines it as torture. The Red Cross says that the US has tortured is prisoners, and they are the legal authority on this subject as defined by our legal treaties.

We are not debating if waterboarding is torture. There are people saying that torture is justified and using euphemism to avoid going to jail.

Shame on you NPR. There are not 2 sides to this story. The US tortured prisoners of war, and this was the policy at the highest levels of government. The only question is will the US clean up its mess or leave it to others to do so. Are there people who are above the law when they commit crimes, or does the law apply to all equally? Is the US a moral leader or a thuggish bully?

We have real decisions to make. NPR does to. Does it really want to be what it claims, or does it want to help defend torture. Does it want to be part of a collective conspiracy and part of the culture of agnotology, or does NPR want to stand for something better.

Shame, shame on you NPR. Don't expect me to renew my membership. I expect better.

There are other, better sources of news than NPR. NPR is worse at covering the news than a newspaper in a 1 paper town & radio news in general... Forget it. Use the www to be informed. If you look long enough you'll find a site that will always offend you. That's the beauty of the www.

In recent years, with its choices in its hires, I have lost virtually all respect for NPR as a news organization

NPR gets orders from the government. It would be naive to think otherwise.

Their coverage was weak and useless whle Bush was in office.

As it continues to be under the current administration.
The trend seems to be the 'beltway media hearts power' rather than party.

NPR = National Propaganda Radio

They are good to their patrons, they good in secrecy and racism.

National Public Radio, a lot of push on National. They don't have the right to turn down interviews.
