To say that this giant BM is a simple white collar criminal is almost criminal in itself. People have been taking their lives as a result of BM's greed. Why should he be shown leniancy.

The Madoff's are puting more thought into going to prison than they did with other peoples money.
How exactly does he have any choice in what prison he does his time??
He doesn't have a choice. But he is allowed to express his preferences, and his lawyers can argue on his behalf. In the end, the choice is the judge's.

I thought a prison consultant was someone who gives advice on how not to get stabbed, r@ped or killed in the big house.

My thoughts exactly. How does he have money to hire anyone? And since when do prisoners get to choose what prison they go to?

In New York we have it all.
He doesn't get to choose. He gets to request. In fact, he's already requested a medium-security facility not far from NYC, where he will be provided with Kosher meals and where there is a rabbi on staff.
