McCain will go down in the history books as the man that brought the world Sarah Palin, Joe-the-Plumber and Charles Keating. I don't put too much weight into anything he says.

Yes, McCain isn't entirely at fault. She could have said no. And I am not at all sure that the idea was entirely his anyway.
However, he doesn't have to come out and make a statement in support of her now. He didn't have to say anything. He is entirely responsible for this statement now.
