Hearing talk of Palin leadership I am reminded of that general of whom it was said that his men would follow him anywhere, but only to find out where he was going.

It can be really easy to blame McCain and he does bear some responsibility here. But...

She COULD have said no.

She should have taken her own meter and realized that she was not ready. She should have considered the scandal of her own making in using her seat to reek familial vengance. She should have blinked a few times and done some humble retrospection at her past career and personal choices and wondered with honesty that she obviously does not posses and asked the lady in the mirror if she would like to have her for Vice President (considering she didn't understand the job) and potentially President but MOST importantly she should have considered her children first and foremost. Knowing her private life like no other and unless she was superficially naive, she should have known how hard a political run is on the candidates family... especially with all that was going on in her family, clearly showing the evidence of the neglect of her motherly presence in their lives. As a professional myself, I know that if you cannot balance it all, something has to give and it can NEVER be your children!

John McCain was a desperate man losing his last chance at the golden ring he had fantasized about for so long. Desperate men use poor judgement and do foolish things. That is not an excuse by a long shot, just an attempt to understand what this man was thinking.

She SHOULD have said no!

Sadly, the word "No", does not appear to form part of the delusional Palin vocabulary.

In the not so grand OLD party, chivalry is most certainly dead--it's been dead. Come on McCain--you and your cronies helped to make her a laughing stock. Too little too late.

A leadership role? She can't even finish one term as governor!

There seems to be in the American psyche, a preference for quirkiness and gimmickry - witness for example, the selections of Bush II and Obama over the intellectually superior John Kerry and Hillary Clinton - in selecting presidents, which is far from ideal.

And so the story continues with the obsessive Sarah Palin fascination. How anyone in their right mind could for a moment consider the Alaska governor to be presidential material is beyond my understanding - but there we have it.

As we remember American Independence, perhaps now would be a good time to consider a more mature American approach to choosing leaders.

Hey John, keep reminding us how lucky we are that you are not president.

Its the gift that keeps on giving.
