Katharine Weymouth

New York Times:

Katharine Weymouth, the relatively new publisher of The Washington Post, is a lawyer who worked for the company for 12 years and was educated at the Harvard School of Business, so she is hardly a naïf in running a business.

The NYT is right about the WaPo, but it's a classic case of pot and kettle.

What can you expect for this once proud paper, which the current generation of leaders have turned into a right-wing rag?

A sad story in that Ivy (liberal) school educations these days clearly do not contain any classes on ethics or moral values.

Ivy Business schools are not liberal, regardless of what the orientation of the liberal arts and sciences part of the University's orientation is.

To my mind, ethics and morals should be learned in the home, not at school. The institution of the family is in bad shape--parents are so stressed they have no time for parenting--so ethics and morals have gone up for grabs.

The universities should reinforce the basic ethics and morals learned in the family, and ensure that they are implemented in the practice of the professions. That's where they've failed, IMHO.

We've also had a succession of utterly amoral politicians, business people and clergy who have presented truly awful role models for the young over the last 40 years. Constant war-making is not a good backdrop for raising enlightened citizens, either.

The eight years of the Bush administration brought all these issues to a swollen, suppurating head, which is well represented by the seemingly random, but consistently truth-free blabberings of the Alaskan charm offender, the South Carolina Romeo, and the "HateTV" channel, spearheaded by Bombastic Bill O.

So don't blame it on the Ivy League. It's a systemic problem.

Okay, you can attack me now.

While the NYT has not claimed or had any integrity while Pooch Sulzberger has been the NYT's king $#it & main fother mucker, Pooch sold what little integrity the the NYT may have had in the far distant past at increasingly cut rates till nobody would buy what had passed for integrity pre-Pooch. Pooch was a persist purveyor of the NYT's spurious, ersatz integrity.
It's the nadir of irony when the NYT accuses the WA PO's publisher of selling the WA PO's own brand of spurious integrety with her marketers ill devised & executed scheme to promote salons at her home. The lady's salons would (for a price) have allowed the denizens of K St to mingle with members of the 111th Congress, senior bureaucrats, power centers in BHO's administration et al. The plan flopped when it was exposed by other media people. The lady & the WA PO cancelled her salons in haste. It was a failed attempt at damage control.
What did the pot call the kettle?
