Binyam Mohamed

Guardian:

Former Guantánamo detainee Binyam Mohamed has launched an urgent legal attempt to prevent the US courts from destroying crucial evidence that he says proves he was abused while being held at the detention camp, the Guardian has learned. The evidence is said to consist of a photograph of Mohamed, a British resident, taken after he was severely beaten by guards at the US navy base in Cuba.

If the CIA was allowed to destroy 92 interrogation videos with no accountability, you can trust this photo will never see the light of day.

These are war crimes but the American people are not demanding accountability. The American people do not care if war crimes are committed by their country. But show them protesters in Iran and they'll take to the streets and Twitter all day to defend the Iranian people's right to have their votes recounted! Pathetic.

Too true.

It doesn't help that our president--the one who opposed torture during his campaign to become president--would like nothing better than to sweep the whole issue under the rug, as if it simply never happened ...

But of course, Michael Jackson is much more important...

Why would Obama allow this evidence to continue to be destroyed ?

Why would he persist in letting the institutions that caused the economic crisis design the way "out," rewarding themselves with lavish bonuses while ordinary Americans remain without homes or jobs? Why would he discourage progressives from challenging the Dems paid off by the health insurance industry on their attempts to weasel out of a "public option"? I supported the guy, but he seems to be dropping the ball ... or intentionally throwing it to the other team.

Why would he permit the institutions that caused the economic crisis to design the solution, rewarding their key players with lavish bonuses while ordinary Americans remain without homes or jobs? Why would he discourage progressives from challenging the Dems bought by the health insurance industry for attempting to avoid any meaningful "public option"? I supported him, but he seems to be dropping the ball ... or intentionally passing it to the other team.

The cover up continues!

For any of you who may become future historians please remember this chapter in our history. Please make sure that the truth is told to future generations. Don't let them buy you off!

Stafford Smith said: "It is difficult to understand the continuing policy of the Obama administration. Surely the public has the right to know the crimes committed by US personnel against a British resident like Binyam Mohamed."

You would think. After all, we were promised "change."

But if it's not torture, why do they feel the need to cover it up? Oh. Right.

I guess if cheney manages to get the pictures destroyed, there won't be any "evidence" of torture.

Why isn't cheney and his torture gang in prison?

Because this Administration and it's justice dept. want none of it. They're doing their best to protect these guys and are "looking forward" hoping the torture issue will just go away. The public is apathetic and many still agree with torture policy of the Bushies.

Why did they fight to hard to prevent the pictures from being published?
Frankly it all looks like business as usual.

Sorry, but OBama is just like Bush, and those pictures will be destroyed, but you were NOT tortured anyways.

Judging from all other actions, I'm inclined to agree with you about the POTUS comparison. If the administration "drags" this out to allow the photo to be destroyed, there will remain little doubt about the comparisons.

Huh? So they destroyed pictures of people NOT getting tortured?
