Marion Barry Arrested Again, Charged With Stalking

WASHINGTON — Police say former Washington Mayor Marion Barry has been arrested and charged with stalking a woman.

The United States Park Police said Barry, a current D.C. Council member, was arrested Saturday in Washington after a woman flagged down an officer and complained Barry was stalking her. Barry was charged with misdemeanor stalking and released.

Barry's spokeswoman, Natalie Williams, said Sunday that the accusation was "baseless."

She says Barry plans to fight the charge and said the accuser is a 40-year-old woman Barry had helped financially.

Barry served four terms as mayor. In his third, he was videotaped in 1990 in a hotel room smoking crack cocaine in an FBI sting. He served six months in prison and in 1994 regained the mayor's office.

Can't speak for others, but in my case my mistrust of Barry has nothing to do with his r ace. Indeed, I don't even understand the concept of continuing to force a person's r .ace into every conversation about them.

I don't trust his word to be the truth because of his history of crack addiction, and other erratic behavior.

I believe that most black people feel that things come down to race because whether we like it or not , they are constantly reminded of their race & judged by it . nevernine: In a district of 99% black people, I doubt if Barry was the only black candidate who ran for office when he was elected. In other words, had he not been voted in, it is very likely that another black man would have assumed the office. Therefore, since the other candidate was the same color, it was not the color of Barry's skin that influenced the support of the voters, as you have suggested.

90% of white Republicans voted for Bush TWICE, regardless of his poor record. I don't recall anyone suggesting that race was a factor in that vote! But of course, it's only racist or racially motivated when blacks vote for others blacks. However, when whites vote for other whites, it's all good, and race is never even considered. In fact, it's all good when whites vote for blacks or when blacks vote for whites! Just don't let blacks vote for blacks, right?

Had a predominate white jury found OJ not guilty due to reasonable doubt, no one would have questioned their motives. But since a predominate black jury found OJ not guilt due to reasonable doubt, their motive is automatically suspect ... simply because they're black!

While racial prejudice may go both ways, racism only goes one way, and your post is headed in that direction.

The city residents were better off under Barry. Fenty has caused more harm to the residents than any good. People in DC are now paying enormous taxes; because of big developers building all over the city, running residents out. Fenty has closed many, many schools, crowding the kids into schools. He is the worst. Everywhere you go, people are losing their homes to development. Gentrification is what Fenty leaves behind.
