Jim went fishing and landed his biggest salmon yet -- a-60 lb. King. Then a little after 11 a.m. he got another whopper -- news that his famous daughter-in-law was quitting her job as governor of Alaska. "Wow!" he said after reading the bulletin on his email. "We had no idea it was coming. Nobody seemed to know; they're extremely private people."

Business leaders that may be planning an early exit from their posts can learn a great deal from reaction to Governor Palin’s unexpected and unexplained resignation. For instance, the questions she’s left unanswered have only fueled speculation about her reasons for leaving office – meaning that Governor Palin has ceded control of her story at what may be its climax. I chatted with Forbes about additional lessons for business leaders yesterday and wrote more on Bulletproof Blog:

It was extremely hard for me to realize, on the day that South Vietnam was abandoned after years of bombing the crap out of it so the US wouldn't look "weak," that though Americans have the biggest cars, planes and buildings, they are culturally rather small. Now, almost four decades later, I realize how small they are, TRAINED to be by the media power elites. Education gets cheapened and dumbed down to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. Then money is made worthless by plastic and then property is made worthless as it replaced plastic in order to buy cheap trinkets from China. Now things are really tough. We have moms and dads (on average five years older than in the Vietnam War) fighting in the Afghan/Iraq Wars (again kiling people with bombs only to prove we are tough)but homefront Americans still suffer from the "ain't my kid going to Iraq/Afghanistan" disconnect syndrome. The Bush Afghan War in response to 9/11, screwed up because of our national greed for oil-- using "getting binLaden" as bait-and-switch, cannibalizing funds Congress gave for that to start a war in Iraq so Congress couldn't refuse funding troops already in Iraq combat-- is now "Obama's War" with 4000 more Marines sent in harm's way for no clear reason. But Mr&Mrs Obese America are too busy on July 4th weekend licking up the news media feces about Michael Jackson and Sarah Palin, to find out how our boys in Afghanistan are doing.

Hard to be a private person when one runs and is elected to public office. Maybe in Alaska she could run interference to limit what people found out about her family but nationally, not going to happen.

Curious how after 'months of consulting with family, friends and staff,' that no one knew of her decision and virtually everyone who knows her were stunned by the news

Wow, I didn't know my daughter-in-law was a spineless and even worse, oh my gosh! A quitter. Way to go Sarah. You'll definitely nail the nom in 2012, if you keep up the good work!

..."Nobody seemed to know; they're extremely private people."

Unindicted co-conspirators have a lot to be private about.

Some people are easily stunned. You reap what you sow.

Why exactly is this news? Belongs in the tabloids.

Note to Father In-Law:

From this moment forward be prepared to be stunned and appalled. Maybe even repulsed.
