"A decade ago" would have been during the tenure of brother Jeb. Chalk up another one for the Bush crime family.

We are borrowing the stimulus money. More stimulus is equivlent to throwing gasoline on the fire. We can't possible pay the debt back... legitemately. The government will use inflation to cheapen the debt. Unfortuneatly, this will hurt the poor, the working class, and the elderly on fixed income. Reckless government spending is not a Liberal value. http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/link/redir.pxe?www.iamned.com

Stimulus is a joke of a concept; it doesn't end up with real economic growth in the long term. Even the New Deal failed to increase private investment. It wasn't until 1941 that domestic private investment reached 1929 levels. The fact that the first stimulus has failed to stop the bleeding yet isn't surprising. Our government deficit for the year which is over 20% of GDP (when the omnibus bill, first stimulus, bailouts, and on-budget deficit are summed) is unsustainable and something's gotta give, whether it be the lenders or the interest rates.

Sooner or sooner, the word "CRIME" ... and "HIGH crime" ... will enter into every public discussion of "what has really been going on here" in oh-so-many contexts, nationally and locally. Financial swindling, not only by individuals but by mega-corporations. Health care, the same.

Basically, when political idealists were championing this thing they called "free market forces," they forgot that Crime is the firstborn son of Markets. They neglected to consider that, if Crime is not continually restrained by true force of law, it will be as unrestrained as a prairie fire and equally destructive. Crime will attack the brain first, flooding legislatures with stupendous amounts of "money" and targeting the greedy and the vain. But its doom is that it consumes everything, making "tasty little cakes" from the farmer's seed-crop...

What happened to auditor at Stanford, he was found dead. Stanford, including their lawyers Proskauer Rose and Thomas Sjoblom should be investigated for murder as well.
-
SPECIAL REPORTS
Another Stanford Group associate died without much notice in January
Wayne Madsen
Online Journal Contributing Writer Mar 5, 2009, 00:19(WMR) On February 27, WMR reported on the death in January of this year of Charlesworth Shelley Hewlett, the accountant who audited the books of Stanford International Bank from a small office between fish and chips shops in north London. Hewlett was 73 and his lawyers said only that he died “peacefully.” WMR has learned from a state government source in the United States that Hewlett’s death was “unusual,” however, little more is known about the circumstances of Hewlett’s death
-
Sjoblom of Proskauer Rose is pointed to in the SEC & FBI indictments as the man behind the scenes, directing employees to lie to SEC regarding the financial condition. Why was Proskauer and Sjoblom not directly named by the FBI & SEC to give the victims full disclosure of how the scheme worked with the SEC, Sjoblom a former SEC enforcement dude? Holt has sued Proskauer & Sjoblom - why has the receiver not seized their assets & law firm? How can the firm continue to operate with liability insurance unless the carrier is unaware & Proskauer failed to notify them of the massive pending liabilities? The FBI & SEC investigators should formally charge Proskauer - victims should demand Proskauer fully

Stanford's horrendous swindle could not have gotten started without the help of government. The real estate mortgage swindle could not have become so huge and disastrous without the assistance of Washington.
The mortgage fraud is being covered up because some legislators and regulators would be indicted for malefeasance and payoffs. Such outrageous treatment of the greatest swindle in the history of the human race will invite, encourage more outrageous frauds and swindles---assuming the United States governance system lasts long enough to give venality and corruption another chance.
If the swindle and fraud were exposed and the perpetuators were identified and indicted, the chances of new swindle and fraud in this generation would be minimal. And honesty and selflessness would show itself in the most unexpected quarters of our wavering Republic.

Processing memory -- loose associations activated:

"Florida" + "regulators" + "criminal activity"

hmmmm!

Preliminary output data; costly, big fraud, financial meltdown = Housing!

Bingo!

Could it be the same type of regulators which sloth and willfull negligence were described here?

Of course he got permission from Jeb. This is the probably the reason that Jeb stepped down. GHWB was in charge of IranContra and the pardoning of all the launderers. How many bank failures have the Bushes been involved with? For me this is the biggest story there is that this is still allowed to happen and is a testament to how deeply corrupt our government is.
