New York Times:

Many American presidents have kept prized possessions within reach during their White House years. Franklin D. Roosevelt cherished a 19th century ship model of the U.S.S. Constitution. One of Dwight D. Eisenhower's favorite gifts was an engraved Steuben glass bowl from his cabinet. And sitting on John F. Kennedy's desk in the Oval Office was a paperweight made from a coconut shell he had carved with a distress message after his PT-109 was sunk during World War II.

"...the library would use items to highlight Bush’s presidential decisions."

I've got some more highlights of Bush's presidency:

Not surprised that he arranged for this gun to be 18 miles away from his new house in Texas before he left office!

I note (and confirmed from another source) from the article that the particular Glock 18C is selectable as a full-auto pistol. It is a machine pistol. Did Bush ever get the special permit required to possess one of those "very special" weapons?

"One of the more popular weapons in Iraq, for those that can afford it, is the Glock 18 9mm pistol. This one looks just like the widely used Glock 17 pistol, but with one major difference, the Glock 18 can fire full auto (1200 rounds a minute)."

It should have been a AK-47 not a 9mm glock.

Would com m en t s be allowed suggesting that any other president, past or present, put a weapon to his head?

Quite true. Everything else about the library is fair game.

Maybe, one day, bush will decide to turn the gun on himself.

The day I saw Saddam being executed was the day I felt that this country stepped into the ABYSS.

And it sure is panning out that way.

By the way, didn't that gun belong to the Iraqi people? I assume he got their permission in writing.

That's stolen property. It belongs to everyone except Bush. It's probably worth a lot of money because of it's historical value. Doesn't that break some kind of ethics rule? I worked for the government and was told I couldn't even accept a cup of coffee. Oh, I forgot Bush can do whatever he wants. This is yet another reason we should all visit Bush's library when it opens and leave our shoes behind to stink-up the exhibit.

You mean the shoes will stink up the exhibit?

Thank you!
Whassup with the whole 'mission accomplished' thing ???
What happen to catching 'Osama' dead or alive ??
Bin Ladin was in this country and Bush was golfing, as usual.
What a joke- a 'toy gun' for a 'toy' soldier-

It's tacky to put money on exhibit. All the cash the Bin Ladens gave to Bush to bail him out of his many successful business would fill a room.

The weapon belongs in a museum somewhere, but not as a symbol in the library of a Kennebunkportian, who never saw 10-seconds of true military service. It should be melted down into a medallion to go into a war memorial somewhere. Fat chance of that.

A feather in the cap for Bush. May be he could have gotten it more economically and far less lives lost.

He might have asked nicely. I mean, after all the government did in supplying arms to Iraq during the war with Iran, it's the least Saddam could have done.

Evidence that can be used to prosecute President Bush for the illegal invasion of a country.

Yes, Mr. Bush. Keep it in a safe place.
