What's Your Reaction?

This Independence Day weekend marked the second incarnation of the fabled Tea Party movement, protesting the government's growing involvement in economic matters. And, just like the first go-around, the July 4 protests saw an elected Republican official, undoubtedly hoping to harness some of that the popular unrest, taking the stage to a chorus of boos.

This time the recipient of the unforgiving welcome was Sen. John Cornyn. The crowd yelled at Cornyn, called him a traitor and shouted that he was "the problem" when he took the stage in Austin.

WATCH:

Cornyn was not the first to face such a reception. South Carolina Rep. Gresham Barrett also was booed mercilessly for his support of the bank bailout during the initial Tea Party protests in April.

For Cornyn, the offense seemed to be more than his support for the initial Wall Street bailout, but also his failure to cast a vote on the economic stimulus package. Though, to be fair, it appears as if the crowd pretty much despised any figure from elected office. Here is how the AP described the scene:

Republican Gov. Rick Perry told the Austin crowd that Washington needed to hear them "loud and clear" on a message of cutting spending and taxation and shrinking the government.

Perry also drew some boos on his support of toll roads to alleviate traffic congestion.

Many in the crowd of hundreds in Austin wore stickers that read, "I resist Socialism."

In Lufkin, organizers urged the crowd to call President Barack Obama and tell him "we are not happy, and we are working to make Texas free from his legislation."

Members of the crowd booed as the names of Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were read.

"I believe that President Obama was elected because we failed to lead," Ted Cruz, former solicitor general of Texas, told the Lufkin crowd. "But I also believe that his greatest legacy as president will be that he inspired a new generation of conservatives to rise up and defend our liberty."

I hate to tell you this guys, but the scrubbing (and not just Palin sites), has completely taken the wind out of my sails. It's like I'm measuring every word, every letter...preparing for failure before I even post. Not that my comments are prose or anything, but I think anyone can attest that this sort of pre-self editing has the tendency to diminish the quality of comments in general. It's very tempting to go ladybastet's route. What's happened to this post in, what seems like, just the last 10 days. And what would our comments ever have to do with legal action taken by the b*rainless t*wit against HP

Please join the lady and I "elsewhere." You know where I mean. I bounce back and fourth because there are more articles here, but the other is tr0ll-free and very pleasant.

I think I know where you're talking about but I'll have to e-mail her and ask her about it. It's just excrutiating posting anything here. And I know how this sounds, but it literally seems that HP has, for whatever reason, become very conservative comment friendly. I look around at some of the incendiary comments they allow in compared to ones I post that they yank and it's just incredible

I understand. We have all been there. M0derators can really hamper things, but this is their site and we are posting for free, so we are at their mercy. What really gets me is how random it can seem.....something you would think was harmless is scrubbed while tr 0llies post their in.s ane hat.red without failure.

P.S. True, we're on here for free but, as I was telling ladybastet the other day, HP is littered with ads for a reason and the more commenters they bring in, and keep, the more revenue they make for the people and companies paying them to run ads. If they chase everyone away, not good for advertisers is it? Can you imagine how many people they would chase away if they were to, for example, start scrubbing Humesceptic enough to chase him away.

I posted, on another thread, what I thought was (in my legend in my own mind of minds) a really good comment. I really put some time into it, unlike most of my insipid comments, posted it, and it was scrubbed within seconds. I could just visualize some 17 year old goober on the other end giggling as he was scrubbing. I then inadvertantly clic'd out of the site where I posted the comment and was unable to retrieve the comment that was just scubbed in an effort ot "sanitize" it. Probably the low point of my level of frustration with this site.

As the first months of the Obama Administration unfold, a growing consensus is emerging that a resurgence of right-wing hate groups and radical ideas is spreading across the United States. Law enforcement officials, civil rights groups, and many others have all expressed worries about this troubling trend.

But the violent extremist left is small, it is not growing, it does not have tacit support from the Democratic party. And an eye should be kept on them too.

I am so sick of these short-sighted, tunnel-vision idiots who whine about socialism and big government and taxes. Idiots. I have an idea. Let all of them opt-out of social security, medicare, and any other kind of taxpayer funded assistance. When it comes time for them to collect their benefits, they would get nothing. They would not be required to pay federal taxes, nor would they be allowed to use federally funded highways, or government subsidized libraries, etc. Oh, and by the way, they could also opt out of any benefits they might other wise have received from the research that provided cures for diseases through stem cell research. When they are diagnosed with cancer, or diabetes, etc. Those cures would not be available to them. Any hospitals that received government funding also would not be available to them. I think they should all sign opt-out cards and fend for themselves.

I hope Homeland Security is watching these people. Reading on some pro-Palin sites today, they are ready for her to start a "revolution" and many are saying they will fight with her until their death.

They are really whipping themselves into a violent frenzy thinking that Palin is going to lead a revolt against President O.

We had a local Repub. write in to the local paper bragging about how 1.7 million protested at the April tea parties. I just sent a response letter that I have a better number. About 128 million people voted in Nov. so that supposedlly would mean that only 1.7 million don't support our president. I'm waiting for the local strong republican uproar with those numbers that they really can't argue about.

It is traditional in American politics for the losers to come together with the winners of elections and help move the united America forward after the election is decided.

With this neocon conservatism they act completely un-American, the campaigning does not stop even after a landslide defeat. They wish failure of the democratically elected adminstration, and talk of seceding and revolution abound.

"I don't think you have been paying attention.."

Oh I pay very close attention indeed. I have disagreed with Obama on several issues, just as he promised I would. I have written to the White House to express myself where we have differences of opinion.

But I support him I would say, about 85% of the time. He is moderate centrist, and a man of great intelligence and leadership abilities, not just for America, but for the entire world. I would never drop my support for the President, any President, unless I was convinced he actually intended and was causing repeated harm to the nation: Bush.

first off you don't know what you are talking about.
As a Texan who was actually in Austin this past weekend who actually witnessed and participated in booing Cornyn AND Rick Perry, I and majority of the people there were and have been against the Iraq war and the WMD issue......so chill with the stereotypical paintbrush.....in fact if your actually from Texas and know a thing or too about Austin you would know there are WAYYYY more liberals and democrats than conservatives and republicans but I digress...
To the comments about Texas being on its own away from the U.S. I'd really like to point out that my state boasts the 8th largest economy in the world.....right behind California (which I assume we will exceed very soon in time).....
It's just so hilarious seeing bloggers not even from this state nor probably the Gulf Coast who think they know whats best for my state.....I will remind them that our Constitution through the 10th amendment gives the Federal government its powers not the other way around....do some homework next time before yall post such garbage.

and I might add that majority of these bloggers who are just so behind Obama are actually supporting this SAME foreign policy attitude Bush set forth and Obama is only continuing...wheres yall's outrage?
Oh I forgot...see you guys only protest against issues where the opposing party is in charge...but if YOUR guy is elected then you just drop all the protests and begin to actually try attacking others protesting the same issue yall once protested against......HYPOCRISY at its finest

I want Texas to try it on their own for about 3 months. I understand this state has no state income tax. The missing federal dollars that probably keeps their state afloat would bring them rushing the new boarder like a flood of illigal aliens. The loss of Medicare dollars alone would bury Texas. Then when they begged to come back, we should say nope.

Texas is a donor state, perhaps the only red state that is. That said, ALL of the major cities went for Obama last election and we are going bluer every day. Perhaps as soon as 2012, those electoral votes the Republicans have taken for granted for so long will be ours.

Phase one is the taking of KBH's Senate seat, which she is leaving to run for Governor, in 2010. Bill White is the current Mayor of Houston, enjoys an 80% bi-partisan approval rate and has a good war chest built already. There are a few more contenders, but he is the most viable. Look for him in D.C. in 2010!
