I'm not sure I agree here. While not a fan of these works myself, they were historical figures, and historical figures tend to have their lives examined.

As for what good can examining these things do, well when it's done well, you get things like Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Anthony & Cleopatra, Richard III. There have been interesting pieces written about Thomas Jefferson, Napoleon, Lincoln, J Edgar Hoover, FDR.

Given that the Kennedy Administration was over 40 years ago, it's not like this is not in a very real sense historical.
