AP Article:

NEW YORK A New York congressman says in a YouTube video that Michael Jackson was a "pervert."

Rep. Peter King said society is "glorifying" a "low-life" while ignoring the efforts of teachers, police officers, firefighters, veterans and volunteers.

Jackson was acquitted of molesting a boy.

In the video, the congressman says the "day in and day out" coverage of Jackson's death is "too politically correct."

He conceded that Jackson "may have been a good singer" and "did some dancing."

King is among the possible Republican contenders for the seat held by Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (JILL'-uh-brand.)

King has said in the past that he represents the interests of "blue-collar conservatives."

King said he "wouldn't leave his kids alone with MJ"

I wouldn't leave mine alone with Rep. King.

And apparently he forgot that Michael Jackson was a father of three children who, from all reports, loved him very much. Michael Jackson was a great entertainer and a much-loved man who has earned a place in history, while Rep. Whatshisface will soon be justifiably forgotten as the mean little man he is.

Such hatred! Such madness! His words ring like rifle shots.

Any consideration of Michael Jackson's awesome oeuvre has to include his angelic triumph over his brutal childhood. Clearly, his music was his triumph. A writing in the sky iteration of his love and sanity.

No question, Michael Jackson was one of the sanest human beings of the 20th century.

All thinking human beings have to be shocked that even America and other 'developed" societies have such primitive systems of social ordering and governance, that individuals of such epochal inventiveness and productivity are no more protected than the person on the street. From the latest reports, it would appear that Michael was attacked and overwhelmed by a swarm of Bernie Madoffs. This is sad and scary and speaks of fatal errors in the way we live our lives and do business.

Dr Deepak Chopra appears to have confirmed that MJ was afflicted by vitiligo.

This is a disease that drastically reduces the colouring in the skin and is commonly seen in India. I am surprised that few in the US appear to accept this obvious explanation. Personally, being black is not just about skin colour. It is about the willingness to assert the dignity of life in the face of ignorance and injustice.

A Note to Congressman Peter King,
I was disgusted by your remarks about the legend Michael Jackson.
Stating that he did some singing and dancing is a gross understatment. He will remain one of the greatest entertainers of all-time, a true icon, a true legend. Outside of the arena of music his contribution on a philanthropic level has greatly impacted both those inside & outside of the U.S.
You comments that he was a “low-life,” “pervert,” and "pedophile" were uncalled for. What absurd statements to make as an elected official! Don’t you believe in our justice system? This is the criminal justice system that never found him guilty of a single crime. You let some allegations, which he was never convicted of, overshadow his genius which is just plain shameful.

The bottom line…Michael Jackson is one of the biggest stars the world has ever seen, if not the biggest. And yes, I would let my child or grandchild be in the same room with Michael Jackson. I would have been honored. Please have some respect for Michael Jackson, his children, his family, and the fans around the world who are both grieving and celebrating the life of this fantastic man.

Sincerely,
A fan of music, humanity, and dignity (and of course a devote Michael Jackson fan...may he rest in peace)

I wonder if he ever consulted with all the troops, all the firefighters, all the teacher etc that have enjoyed MJ's music and have had their lives, in some small way, made more enjoyable through his songs and lyrics. I just wonder.

Peter King, you just made yourself a target for TMZ, CNN and other news and gossip organizations to look for dirt on you. Nothing cranks out the news cycle faster than exposing a politiciam as a hypocrite.

Human society too often places too much emphasis on the wrong things in life. News media attention to Palin and Jackson are 2 such examples. This is just sensationalism reporting.

It is too bad they can't air and print stories about real ordinary average American citizens, the unsung heroes of our country just like the Senator states. They would get broader viewing and readership.

I turn off the TV sound or change channels whenever news media shove this sensationalism reporting at us. It is too bad they can't air and print stories about real ordinary average American citizens, the unsung heroes of our country instead of glorifying people who should just fade away into obscurity.

How is it that a congressman representing the people one of which was Michael Jackson, be so unsupportive of the system he represents and also ignorant of the way the media influences our information and our attitude. We all like to indulge ourselves feeling like we are better than others. Shame on those of us who indulge in judging one another. Mr. King is a patriotic person but Michael Jackson on the other hand, was concerned not just about his own country, but about the people of the world. Michael Jackson was simply misunderstood by people like Peter King. I have to say that it is unfortunate, such a talented and truly gifted person as Michael Jackson, should have to spend so much of his very precious time, in court deffending himself from people who wanted something from him. Most likely it was money they wanted. We are the World, Gone To Soon, Black or White to name three, were a few of the songs that were songs with a profound message. He was a patriot as deeply concerned as Peter King, but he believed in making the world a better place. Not just his own backyard. So be careful how you critisize those of us who mourn him as a generous creative powerhouse of an amazing man. He composed, danced, sang and did so much more than that. Those of us who sympathized with him, who felt he was victimized by many including the media, will miss him always.

Wow! What better way to make folks take notice of you especially if you are a politician than name dropping. Crime fighters, firefighters, U.S armed forces, teachers and lastly Michael Jackson. King reduces Jackson practically to the lowest social denominator. I’m sure King is patriotic but only to a point. He is neither respectful of the law in Jackson’s case or of the grief of loss within a family or of those millions whose lives have been impacted in a positive way through the artistry of a great American artist. King’s insincerity pretends the virtue of other people’s qualities validate his beliefs about Michael Jackson. It just doesn’t ring true. King doesn’t know if Jackson was innocent or guilty but the law says he was not guilty. Those who claim he was guilty of a crime did so to blackmail a wealthy entertainer and make themselves some money…clear and simple.

MJ's mother and children are still alive and this will all be public record. At a time of such sorrow for the family this man uses lies to slander a dead man just to further his political ambition.

Michael Jackson gave thousands upon thousands to charity. He gave music that still delights the whole world. He danced like no one before and probably no one after. He was a perfectionist -- wanting to give every last bit of polish to every performance so as not to disappoint his fans.

I guess instead of rejoicing in the music some people are so envious that they turn to hate and meanness. Some people are dull normal and can never forgive anyone who isn't.

I think that anyone who read the transcripts of the trial knows he wasn't guilty. Even Martin Bashir who made that 8 month awful documentary of him said, "...I never saw any wrongdoing myself." He was constantly filming him and saw nothing. But you would never know it from his video -- he fed the flames of controversy for his own enrichment. Just like Mr. King. Sad. Someday they will both be judged.

Well, to be fair, he's assuming that there's some truth to the allegations of molestation by Jackson. *If true*, then certainly, that would make Jackson a pervert and a low-life. Anyone who molests a child, no matter what how great his other talents may be, is a monster.

That being said, Jackson was acquitted of the criminal charges. However, he did settle out of court to the tune of $22 million with one boy, and the boy stopped cooperating with the police investigation thereafter. Some people interpret the settlement as buying the boy's silence; others are more generous to Jackson and think that it was money spent to make a nightmare go away that threaten to unfairly ruin his reputation.
