'Three's Company' Joyce DeWitt Cited For DUI

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — An actress who starred on the hit television series "Three's Company" has been arrested in Southern California and cited for drunken driving. Police say Joyce DeWitt, who played the character Janet Wood on the popular show, was pulled over Saturday afternoon after she drove past a barricade near a park in El Segundo.

Sgt. Danny Kim says an officer arrested the 60-year-old DeWitt after he observed signs she had been drinking and gave her field sobriety tests.

Kim says DeWitt was booked at the Police Department, cited and released on her own recognizance.

A telephone listing for DeWitt was not immediately available.

I blew 0.13 over 20 years ago when I was living in the US and when they were just beginning to clamp down on DWI. It ended up being a very good lesson, and I (partly because I now live in a city where one does not have to drive) been very good ever since.

I think this is another unfortunate side effect of America's (and definitely LAs) love affair with the car. In Amsterdam, we have an excellent network of trams and for the after hours crowed - night buses. One simply does not have to be confronted with the choice of getting around OR having a few drinks.

I echo your kind wishes for Janet. Bad things happen to good people, unfortunately.

I agree with you completely. Having lived in London for a couple of years, driving was never an issue. You either took the underground or a night bus or if you had a little extra money, a cab. She's human, it happens. I don't judge Joyce for this error.

What is the point of releasing unflattering mugshots, exactly? Does it somehow reduce the incidence of drunk driving? No. The police do it because they can, and because they enjoy humiliating people.

The article did not indicate her BAC. Luckily, she did not hurt anyone.

I agree about knowing her BAC: it's hard for me to get too sanctimonious if her blood alcohol was around 0.08%, seeing as that was legal until relatively recently.

Oh, Janet was always my favorite. She was always proof that even though there may be better looking people around, you could still be the more desirable one by being smart, cool and funny.
