LUBBOCK, Texas — Alberto Gonzales, who resigned as U.S. attorney general two years ago, is coming to Texas Tech this fall to teach political science.

Texas Tech Unversity System Chancellor Kent Hance confirmed the hiring on Tuesday.

It was first reported on the Austin American-Statesman in its online edition. A senior business assistant in Tech's political science department, Dora Rodriguez, told the newspaper that Gonzales will teach a "special topics" course on contemporary issues in the executive branch.

Gonzales served as then-Gov. George W. Bush's personal attorney, then was Texas secretary of state and a Texas Supreme Court justice before joining Bush in Washington.

I feel sorry for the students. It says a lot about the school. Be careful students because he may intern you in his class and use torture style techniques to get over his points.

Texas Tech's accreditation ought to be suspect. Anyone who has Alberto Gonzales on his transcript ought to be ineligible for any job in this country.
Oh wait, maybe his course is only for legacy students in the George W. Bush mold.

Like I said in a comment on a previous post a few minutes ago, the excessive heat and relative lack of water (consumption of Lone Star apparently doesn't cut it) has stunted evolution in Texas. I'm surprised that he wasn't hired as coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

I am an online arsonist. Let the flaming begin.

Texas Tech also hired Bobby Knight after his Indiana debacle. 'Nuff said.

Do any Texas Tech alumni (especially LAW alumni) care to defend this hire?

You'd have to find an alumnus who can write.

Wouldn't hold your breath.

He is in an endowed chair on Governmental Ethics.

In other words, some rich Texan GAVE him a paycheck.

Who endowed the chair? We need names.

There are plenty of prestigious law firms in Dallas and Houston, very right-wing (Enron) tight with BushCo (James Baker).

Gonzalez even "served" on the Texas Supreme Court.

Even THEY wouldn't hire Gonzalez.

Getting hired by Texas Tech is like getting a job as assistant dog-catcher.

He'll be teaching Technical Writing, specifically, how to write Torture Memos.

Even within Texas, Texas Tech is considered a school for rednecks. When my dad was stationed in Lubbock during the 1960s, he saw a sign outside a restaurant that said "dogs and mexicans not allowed".

Maybe texas Tech should tell him they don't recall hiring him.

Boy, Texas Tech sure has come down several notches with that hire. Why would any school hire a guy that can't recall a damn thing?

i don't recall, i don't recall. i don't recall
