Peter King

Days after he posted a video calling Michael Jackson a pervert, Rep. Pete King says his office has been flooded with calls and the majority have been positive.

King told the NY Post that his office phones have been ringing off the hook with "hundreds and hundreds" of calls, with many callers thanking him for saying what had gone unsaid about Michael Jackson.

"I think I hit a raw nerve," King said.

Many other calls, however, were threatening and negative.

Meanwhile, Jackson fans are rallying to raise money to defeat King and get him out of office.

The video, if you missed it yesterday, is below.

Strange how Pete King says he received hundreds of positive comments yet the majority here are against him, as am I. Go peddle your particular brand of hatred somewhere else Mr. King. Wonder how long it will be before a scandle about you is uncovered. You know...the pot calling the kettle black? Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

I'd like the stats on how many people actually believe anything Peter King says.

This guy is just trying to make a name for himself. It purely a political move. I doubt that his phone calls have been overwhelmingly supportive of his actions.

I hope he gets to find out what it's like to be unemployed.

Because he is a publicly elected official, Rep King shows an astonishing disrespect for the rule of law in this country through his comments. Jackson was acquited of all charges, and anyone in public office should respect that in any public comments. For a government rep (other than a prosecutor) to use the power of his office to accuse someone of a crime that a jury has acquited him of is unacceptable, and an insult to the jury and to the court system. Talk show hosts can, and should, say whatever they want to say to drive up their ratings. King can say what he wants in private, or after he leaves office. His constituants can say what they want. But while King is on the taxpayers dime, he should use his power responsibly, and these statements are an abuse of that power.

Exactly. "Freedom of speech" doesn't justify or excuse slander.

AND, as a Congressman, this is the most he's got to concern himself with?

Here is a good example of trying to make a valid point badly. It is true that the MSM many times latches onto a story because lets face it....it's much easier to do that than to report the real news. The passing of MJ I think shocked many of us and was unexpected much like Elvis was. Mr King is right that "the media" places most of its attention to easy reporting and not to the stories of people that are really suffering today in high reward jobs with low reward pays like teachers, nurses, firemen etc etc. Teachers used to be a "recession-proof" job but not anymore. Mr king could have made this valid point without speaking about MJ or Palin or anyone else in the celebrity spotlight. For him to include Michael Jackson in his comment shows a great lack of thought. A statement about how media misses the mark would have received thunderous applause from so many Americans that know their news is manufactured and laced with propaganda against the same people it claims to protect.

Do you think he would have made any comment at all about the under-recognition of those professions if it weren't to make the point that the world should not be holding a pervert in high regard? If it was his intention to call attention to those issues he could have done it at any time at all. I believe those references were made to support his belief that MJ's passing should not have been highly made of, and nothing more. Without the derogatory comments he certainly wouldn't have made the front page of any newspaper.

Here is yet another Republican blunder. First of all, criticizing any deceased person before they're even in the ground completely lacks class. Second, who the hell is HE to complain about someone he is only familiar with through tabloids? Smacks of attention-grabbing hubris that Republicans are becoming famous for. Finally he is completely misreading the sentiment of the vast majority of Americans. He needs a bumper sticker "Republican,Out of Touch and PROUD of it!" What a jerk.

Peter King has now established himself...as a low-life trash that has no place in history, governance or the like! Trashing on the departed. Poor no talent him........Sadly,that's the only way he could make his name!

Just because that many people viewed it, doesnot mean that comments themselves were a hit.

Let's see how much money is raised to help your opponent.

I watched CBS World News last night and the first TEN MINUTES of “news” concerned itself with Michael Jackson and his memorial service. It might as well have been "Entertainment Tonight". Sad thing, really.

Last night I spent three hours reading the court depositions and papers since somebody posted the link. I came to the conclusion that I may have been wrong at accepting the media version of events. After I finished reading I prayed to be forgiven for jumping to conclusions and to become more open minded, and not so judgemental of others. I feel for his family and their grief. May your son, brother, father, and idol rest in Peace.

I hope that nobody makes a video about Mr. Kings children in the wake of their death calling them horrible names. Have some respect, Mr. King. What is wrong with you? As a NY constituent, I will not be voting for you again.

Why would you want to put out an anti-video on a newly deceased individual?

Now who is perverted????
Very disprepectful. How would you like it if somebody did the same to you?

And why would Peter King want to brag that he's received hundreds of calls about his beef with someone who has died? As much as there is to be done legislatively, surely King can find some other way to use his energy. If he or any one else does not like Michael Jackson, he can change the channel or choose to do something else. It makes no sense for him to attack the dead. He should have called the tv stations, who are trying to keep their ratings up.
