A resurgent movement to place "personhood" measures on state ballots across the nation to ban abortion and comprehensive reproductive care could have far more sweeping implications than the trial balloon Colorado voters soundly defeated last year.

Far from being dissuaded by the 3-to-1 loss from their 2008 campaign to confer zygotes with legal rights, abortion opponents are regrouping with a broader initiative that purports to address life span issues, from conception to death.

This whole anti-reproductive rights thing is a scam. It's a fact that affordable contraceptives, s ex ed and family planning keep unwanted pregnancies and abortions down so doing what these people propose would actually result in the opposite. I believe that's exactly what they want so their "cause" can continue. The pro-life movement is actually pro-birth and has nothing to do with pro-life, otherwise they would be against the death penalty and war. They hate big government yet want it to control women's reproductive rights. Total contradictions.
It's all about control, pushing their religious views on the rest of us and treating women as baby factories all under the guise of saving the unborn. How many of these zealouts have adopted those unwanted babies or fostered these kids? Who pays the bills after these kids are born to a woman with no means? Where are they when these kids are hungry because their are too many children in one family?
It's a scam.

If a mugger strikes a pregnant woman in her stomach, and kills her nine month old fetus, is that murder, or battery? If you think its murder, walk it back to when the fetus was a mere blastocyst. Where did the change occur? If you think its battery, if the mugger had hit the fetus in the head as it was being delivered, and killed it, what would that be? Is it just a matter of the location?
I'm pro-choice, but these are interesting questions.

I wonder how the legal system will deal with women who are unable to carry to term, will they be charged with murder, man slaughter, endangerment, what? What about tubal pregnancy's? How will women who have fatal diseases, like cancer, during their gestation be dealt with? Will the life of the fetus/person be considered more important than the life of the mother? Most importantly, how do these fools plan to prosecute those of us who miscarry? Will our Dr. be called upon to testify against us for having a high risk pregnancy and failing to deliver a live baby?

The article has links to the proposed language, which defines person as any human being from its earliest point of development (i.e., once an egg is fertilized and divides into two cells).

The obvious intent is to ban abortion of all types, including the morning after pill. The unintended consequences of defining a person this way are not understood, but vast. Proponents brush off the questions as if they are minor. This is the tunnel vision of the ant-abortion crowd.

So here we are, fighting radical Muslims in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, while at home, our own radicals plan their religiously inspired repression of Women and unbelievers. They should have a conference and share ideas.
