The Stash:

A knowledgeable industry source confirmed to me yesterday that, as part of their efforts to roll back the Obama proposal for a consumer financial products regulator, several lobbying organizations representing banks are developing a "Harry and Louise"-style ad campaign, after the commercials that targeted the Clinton healthcare plan in the early '90s.

LMAO. We need to meet this angle, most likely urging consumers to take control. We need to finish that statement for the lobby. Take control so we can rip you off. Again.

It's pretty simple, isn't it?

Just make the banks add a line at the end, saying that

THIS AD WAS SPONSORED BY YOUR BAILOUT MONEY, DEAR STUPID TAXPAYER AND CONSUMER AND CUSTOMER

Plutocracy is better than Democracy.

Voting is a joke. The corporations already own and run everything.

Let's stop wasting out time and let the Banksters run things

and everything will be perfect, right?

14T$ to the Banksters, 1 trillion to Main street.

We are borrowing the stimulus money. More stimulus is equivlent to throwing gasoline on the fire. We can't possible pay the debt back... legitemately. The government will use inflation to cheapen the debt. Unfortuneatly, this will hurt the poor, the working class, and the elderly on fixed income. Reckless government spending is not a Liberal value. http://www.alexandria.lib.va.us/link/redir.pxe?www.iamned.com

Stimulus is a joke of a concept; it doesn't end up with real economic growth in the long term. Even the New Deal failed to increase private investment. It wasn't until 1941 that domestic private investment reached 1929 levels. The fact that the first stimulus has failed to stop the bleeding yet isn't surprising. Our government deficit for the year which is over 20% of GDP (when the omnibus bill, first stimulus, bailouts, and on-budget deficit are summed) is unsustainable and something's gotta give, whether it be the lenders or the interest rates.

"If you allow the government to prevent our banks from causing another Great Depression again... YOUR RATES MIGHT INCREASE!!!!"

OH NOES!!!!

As always, conservative ideology proves itself unviable in the long term, because it only focuses on instant gratification. Although honestly, conservative ideology isn't even good in the short term, unless you are one of the people looting the target nation.

Regulation is a must, De-Regulation is what caused this mess in the first place. Keep up the campaign against big banks because they will never give up the fight. They have the money to hire people to spend all days to determine the best way to fight.

Go to the unemployment office pass around a petition, email congressmen at www.house.gov. Boycott the ad agency, find phone #'s and other pertinent info about representatives at www.commoncause.org it is the last item under the pull down menu of take action. you don't have to support commoncause but it has a great reference list.

Here we go again, with the banks wasting OUR money on nothing.
What the banks fail to realize is, (1) this is not the 90's (2) WE Americans are better informed then in the 90's (3) Americans do not care about the banks anymore because of their greed.

How about a Harry & Louise commercial where they have to go back to work because their retirement accounts were drained and they can't make the balloon payment on the equity loan they foolishly took out?

And they wish they were on Social Security, which is still up and running because it's run by the government... and the conservatives "reforms" didn't put all it's funding into the stock market.

Once again, conservative economic ideas are revealed as not just wrong, but outright fraudulent.

If the big-ass banks we have had to bail out - just to maintain their 'zombie' status have a problem with rigorous consumer protections against them and their non-value-added financial products, outrageous fees, NINJa loan techniques, and highly leveraged credit default swaps,....

Then obviously increased Government regulation of these companies is something that really, really, needs to be done.

So of course,... the banks will throw money at their politician lapdogs, put up (at best) semi-accurate, scare-ongering, propaganda commercials,... AND nothing will change.

Next bubble inflates,... and we all go down again.

Fight fire with fire.
Find the name of the advertising agency that will generate the Ad and boycott any product that uses the same agency

I like your idea, Banks are never going to give up they hire people to work full-time so that they can maintain their position. If we give up, if we allow banks to push their weight around then we lose. Write your senator, boycott the ad agencies, write the CEO's and demand attention. Start at www.commoncause.org or www.house.org.

It would be nice if Americans could come together and fight Corporate America or otherwise it will be too late this time and next time it may lead to a revolution. Especially since Corporate America did not seem to learn anything this time around.

Read The Web of Debt , by EH Brown. You will see that all your misgivings about the banking system in this Country were well founded. The Banking System ,starting with the Federal Reserve down , is on the same par as the Insurance Companys are to Health Care. A Parrasitic cancer that attached itself to the American People long ago and is still sucking the blood out of them.
We do need a Banking system to take care of OUR MONEY. We do not need a casino for Wall Streetsters and International gamblers to play in and then IF they lose send US the bill.

This really pisses me off ... because ultimately, as a consumer, I'm probably helping to pay for these ads. If these big businesses have so much big money to spend on lobbying and commercials and big pay for CEO's ... we the public are being w-a-y overcharged for their products.

Ugh, No Duh? The question of the hour is why were so many poor people's taxes used to bail out the banks that historically deny them loans anyways (i.e. blacks, latinos, hispanics, asians, etc.)? Now that is the "TRUE QUESTION" of the hour?

I think you could have stopped at "poor people" and maybe added "working class," instead of forwarding the notion of ethnic minorities being poor. There are more caucasians on assistance than any particular minority, according to Sonya Michel (University of Maryland, College Park) and Professor Klaus Petersen (University of Southern Denmark).

Great; another Harry & Louise disinformation campaign brought to you (yet again) by GOP corporate sponsors. People will undoubtedly buy this nonsense again; after all it worked so well in public interest last time. Right.

Great idea, let us throw a little more bail out there way, so they will have enough money to lobby against anything coming out of washington.
