What's Your Reaction?

A teary Brooke Shields took the podium to talk about Michael Jackson, her friend since they met when she was 13. She shared old memories and said that while their relationship was considered unlikely by the media, "to us, it was the most natural and easiest of friendships."

The eulogy comes a day after she spoke to Rolling Stone about her 'asexual' friendship with Jackson.

Shields said that Jackson's favorite song was 'Smile' by Charlie Chaplin and that's what everyone needs to do now. She closed by reading a passage from 'The Little Prince,' whose titular character reminds her of her friend.

I was touched by Brooke Shields and her heartfelt words about her childhood chum, Michael Jackson.
I love how she said what they shared was laughter. The world needs more of that. For those who think her eulogy was phony, that is your right. But from here it seems that for some of the public, you just can't live right,
die right, or even grieve right. Someone is always there to criticize and call you down.

I thought that she was fake. She was the only person whom I felt uncomfortable watching, and I agree; she was in the same town as he was, why did she never come to his aid

I disagree w/stmts Ms Shields comments were fake. There were many wonderful tributes to MJ during the memorial. 2 that stand out were those of his brave daughter & Brooke Shields. Her's was among the most sincere, personal, poignient & showed how devestated she was at a loss of a close friend. Ms. Shields is a star w/o MJ & need not engage in fake public displays of grief. How cold a person would possibly question genuine tears, funny personal tales that this clearly devistated, disheleved, yet still gourgous star cried for a frend she clearly loved. It's well known these 2 literally grew up together & remained close for decades. It's been widely reported MJ, along Brookes kids often played together, as did his kids w/many other friends/associates during past several yrs. They played just like so many regular kids, away from the press, out of any spotlights. Brooke was unable to reach Michael for exactly the same reason so many friends & family could not. He was a tourtured soul, certainly made questionable judgements & surrounded/insulated himself with money hungry parasites and enablers. Like many others famous & not, he choose to medicate himself to coverup & make pain go away. When anyone who truly cared for him attempted to intervene, he effectively cut them off. Brookes tears should not make anyone feel uncomfortable. They should be recognized as the genuine grief & affection she felt toward her long-time friend.

I guess time will tell and many stories will unfold, but where exactly were all these people all these years for their friend Michael Jackson that obviously was on a path of destruction? I think a lot of people got their media moment at the expense of their friend.

...yeah...probably right.

Lionel Ritchie? Smokie Robinson? Stevie Wonder? Mariah Carrie ? Geez could you ever assemble a more shallow bunch of sell-outs?

Many people were there for him, but the media never played it up. They only cared about showing "Wacko Jacko". I don't agree with many of the choices he made, but he chose to surround himself with enablers. For years when he'd be in the news for odd behavior, he was around a new group of people. I think he pushed a lot of people away because of his own pain. It doesn't make it right, but his death has made it real to many people.

So very touching, and heartfelt.

" We will meet again my friend,
A hundred years from today
Far away from where we lived
And where we used to play.

We will know each others' eyes
And wonder where we met
Your laugh will sound familiar
Your heart, I won't forget.

We will meet, I'm sure of this,
But let's not wait till then...
Let's take a walk beneath the stars
And share this world again."

The most enlightened people are those that are not just tolerant of but open and accepting of other people's religions, cultures, customs, values and traditions. It does not mean you have to practice or believe what other people do, but you give them the space to be who they are without judgment. It also does not mean that it accepts things that are illegal or immoral.

People judge Tom Cruise so harshly. Who exactly is he really hurting by being a scientologist? Have you ever wondered if other people believe the religion you are is not acceptable?

After hearing Jermaine's hauntingly beautiful rendition of Smile, I immediately went to iTunes and searched his name, and sadly, found nothing past 2000. I would love to hear more from this man, something new, or, at the very least, to see his performance tonight put on a tribute album to MJ.

I don't know if he always sings with such heart, passion, and beauty. Maybe his performance today arose from his soul and he was channeling his brother. If he is normally this amazing, it's a shame we don't hear more from him.

I too am a fan of Jermaine's music. Would recommend (if still in print) his album My Name is Jermaine...

Whether they had a lasting friendship throughout the years or not, she was able to render a very personal side of Michael that we did not know. We appreciate that we came to know him better through her words.

Brooke Shields graduated from Princeton. It showed today that she is educated, well spoken, thoughtful and had a genuine friendship with Michael Jackson.

Reading the excerpt from "The Little Prince" was brilliant and brought me to tears. I was very moved by Ms. Shields words and I am very rarely moved by Hollywood celebrities. How heartfelt. Michael heard all her words from heaven on a crescent moon for sure. How fleeting our little lives all are.
