I hope they can do the book justice. I can't imagine who will play Calliope.

A FABULOUS book. It was heart wrenching and endearing. I wish them well in developing this story!

HBO is very hung up on sex lately, isn't it, with very few exceptions. Still upset about the ditching of "John From Cincinnati" and "Carnivale" and I know a lot of people loved "Deadwood," although I did not get into that particular show. The latter two were ditched, along with "Rome" because they claimed that in spite of the fact that these shows were hits they were too expensive to produce. USA Network used this rationale to get rid of "Dead Zone" and "The 4400." The only exception to HBO's "sex drive" at the moment was "The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency," which was very popular with HBO views (if you read their boards), even people who didn't think they would like it. I was one of those people and fell in love with this show.

"Hung" is interesting and it's harmless, maybe it will get better as the series goes on, maybe not.

Middlesex is far less about sex than it is about people trying to understand their own identity.

Also, the shows you mentioned were not "Hits," with the possible exception of Deadwood. John From Cincinnati got the lowest ratings of any HBO series ever, while Carnivale, Rome, and Deadwood did not get anywhere near ratings that would justify production costs.

Yeah and of course it is always about the bottom line, not about artistic integrity and programming excellence...
