We have shed enough blood in Iraq on Israel's behalf, now they expect us to do the same in Iran just because they pay off our politicians with the aid money we give them.

the schoolyard bullies have been told that they can't use airspace to get to iran. saudi arabia? russia? nobody, nobody supports the warmongers.

israel,/ you're/ out/ of/ gas/ dude.

The pretext for Israel to bomb Iran is already brewing. We see this with the unrest in Iran with the election (divide and conquer), we see this with the Obama administration not taking a strong stance against illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land, we see this with Biden recently stating that the U.S. will not interfere if Israel bombed Iran, we see this with Obama trying to woo the Russians on joining the bandwagon against Iran (next it will be to woo China).

Hopefully peace and justice will prevail in the end.

I'm seeing a choreographed good cop - bad cop routine, intended to turn up the heat on Iran. Obama's the good cop "Look, Ahmad. You're going to have to deal with one us, and you're better off if its me. Deal with me, and you get these goodies. Deal with Bibi, and all you're gonna get is the bombs. Don't look at ME to save you from Israel, because I can't....unless you're dealing with me. Now, how about it? It's your choice! DO you want to deal with me, a man who wants to be your friend, or do you want to deal with HIM? He hates you. You know his family comes from Iran, don't you? Well, Bibi hasn't forgotten, either..."
08:32 PM on 07/07/2009
Nobody's going to be fooled by that routine. If Israel attacks Iran, they will unite the entire Middle East against both Israel and the United States. Thousands of American troops will die, Europe will do the wise thing and stand back while China and Russia will be laughing at us.

Israel is very quickly becoming the nail in the US' coffin, it seems.

where is my comment?
02:53 PM on 07/07/2009
I've decided I'm sick of posting about Israel. For decades, the world has put up with this nation of warmongers who flout UN resolutions, steal land, massacre women and children, hold thousands of prisoners without trial etc etc.
No one seems to take them on, they are like school bullies who are constantly indulged.
When are governments around the world going to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Don't be sick of fighting against injustice and the wrongful or it will just continue on. Keep speaking the truth and have hope for change.
02:46 PM on 07/07/2009
More propaganda for the sheeple. Iran an existential threat to Israel? Fancy words that do not mean anything, except that the aggression continues on by Israel and the U.S. The U.S. controls Israel and not the other way around. You are being duped if you think otherwise. The pot is calling the kettle black my friends. Think about it. Who has the nuclear weapons in the region - and why?
02:24 PM on 07/07/2009
Israel will NOT attack Iran. They're not stupid, after all. It would be scorched earth.
The most they would do, if anything at all, is to surgically strike a KNOWN site, but so far, I doubt there are any of those.
02:12 PM on 07/07/2009
Mod,

I have to complain about one of the users screen name: Naqba. That word is the word used by Palestinians to refer to the greatest catastrophe in Palestinian history, and it is being used by someone who is vehemently anti-Arab and Anti-Palestinian. Please look at his/her past posts on the issue. It really is the equivalent of having someone with the screen name "Holocaust" who constantly anti-Jewish posts. it is immature and blatantly provocative to the Arab and pro-Arab readers on this site.

All you need to do is click on the Individuals profile name and on the top right hand corner just click on "Report an abusive profile".

Thank you.

IDF motto: Hit'em before they even become a viable threat. Isn't that the same as punching someone in the face for looking at you the wrong way?
12:57 PM on 07/07/2009
Why should Israel ask the U.S.'s permission to attack Iran? Most of our intelligence in the region comes from Israel. Biden just made a statement giving Israel the right to attack Iran if Israel finds herself in imminent danger. So what's the big deal here?

The "big deal here" is Iran will IMMEDIATELY close the ONLY outlet for Middle Eastern oil to the rest of the world if they are attacked by the US or Israel.

You want to see a real world-wide depression, just let Israel (or the US) bomb Iran for any reason.

If any nation in the Middle East poses a threat to the world, it is Israel, not Iran.
01:27 PM on 07/07/2009
Go ahead, just don't ask us to get your back in the fight. we have our own messes to deal with. I believe that Israel pushed really hard for us to get into one of the current messes as well.
12:54 PM on 07/07/2009
It appears truly impractical for Israel to attack Iran by air without U.S. assistance, at the very least in allowing overflight of Iraq. Any other route is too long or crosses too much hostile territory (Syria and Turkey in one direction, Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf in another). I'm surprised, but pleased, that the Bush administration denied permission for overflight of Iraq. I sincerely hope that the Obama administration will continue to deny permission.

Other support measures that might be necessary include:

- Aerial refueling
- AWACS aerial surveillance
- Electronic Warfare action against Iranian SAM threats by U.S. Navy Prowlers

Let's keep our guns holstered and try to resolve the differences without military conflict.
01:06 PM on 07/07/2009
I don't believe that Israel has any intentions of attacking Iran without major provocation. Let's give Israel and Israeli intelligence some credit here for holding back militarily, instead of dissolving into hysterics as most of the posters here have done.
Should Israel be forced to pre-empt on Iran, no doubt her bombers will be able to complete their run before encountering hostile fire from the likes of Syria. I'm quite certain that Turkey and Saudi Arabia will stay out of it. Frankly, they'd like to see Iran's teeth pulled, too.
02:43 PM on 07/07/2009
Then why does Israel continually drone on about Iran?

I long for the day when the US announces we are placing harsh sanctions on Israel for their multiple violations of UN resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 242 (1967) that specifically states that "land cannot be acquired through warfare."

I'll probably be waiting a very long time.
02:44 PM on 07/07/2009
I second that

If you don't ask for permission then make sure you are ready to fight it alone. You have a security interest. A legit one. So either work with your allies or fight alone. But what Bebe wants is to bomb the crap out of Iran, and then say to the US, see? They attacked us. But no, we don't see. If you bomb Iran without our approval then fight the war without our help.

We all see whats happening in Iran.If Isreal bombs the people of Iran,,,then we should arm them.It is way beyond time to cut all aide to Isreal. They have nukes...but they wont sign. Our biggest problem in the middle east is Isreal..as they steal land, start wars and murder people in Gaza.Nice how they started a mini war...before Obama got in...just had time to kill a few more whibefroe Bush was out the door. What ever happened to the spys???Ohh thats right...its ok to have allies spying on us.

If ever there was a chance in history for peace in the Middle East it would have been now, if only Israel had nominated a moderate leader.

They did, and she won right? But rather than destroy and hamstring the gov she stepped aside. It was going to be a Coleman Franken debacle and she stepped back. At least that is what I remember. Anyone with more details?

I don't understand your post. I was talking about Israel nominating Benjamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister instead of someone moderate that might have accepted the rights of Palestinians to have a state of their own as per the '67 borders.
