McConnell Slams Sotomayor On Firefighters Discrimination Case

WASHINGTON — The Senate's top Republican is lashing out at Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor for ruling against white firefighters who alleged reverse discrimination.

Sen. Mitch McConnell says Sotomayor's decision as a federal appeals court judge suggests she allows her own agenda to cloud her judgment and favors certain groups.

Firefighters in New Haven, Conn., challenged the city's decision to scrap a promotion test because too few minorities qualified. Sotomayor was part of an appeals court panel that dismissed the firefighters' challenge. The Supreme Court reversed that decision last week.

McConnell says Sotomayor may have let her service with a civil rights group that represented Hispanics in job discrimination cases affect her decision.

Sen. McConnell again displays his lack of knowledge and pluck. Judge Sotomayor followed the law when she ruled (with others) in this case. If she had ruled otherwise, McConnell and ilk would say she's an "activist judge." Of course, they call her that as well.
McConnell leading the GOP Senate is a strong reason why they have become a highly dysfunctional group.

I am so tired of (some) people saying some are for this group and that group, I am going to go somewhere now it is a (fact) that america leaded the way to discrimination although the laws are for all people they were not always carried out that way. We will hear why Judge Sotomayor, went the way she did out of her own mouth, not from naysayers. People, right in this country fought and died for equal rights although the laws were put in place for all americans (injustice) was done to a certain group of people for the color of their skin and not based on character. Today, the united states lead system for as prisons and this statement I'm about to make is a fact, if a black and latino sell crack cocaine they probably will have to do 15years in prison because that is whats sold mainly in the black and latino community if a white person sells cocain and gets caught he will do half of what they do, same drug now, one is just cooked, same affect now you tell me is that fair. You figure.

While much of your diatribe is correct, you should probably read the remarks that the Federalists on the Supreme ct did make in making their decision. They are scary people, but perhaps it will clarify some of the reasons that Sotomayor was reversed. No shame in that either.

Can anybody tell me if any of the talking heads picked up on the story of the SCOTUS asking to rehear arguments on the Hillary Movie case, with an eye towards overturning the key provision in McCain Fiengold to allow Corporations to spend whatever they want on political campaigns?

It looks to me like the Senate Repubs are going to hold up Sotomayor's confirmation so Roberts and Alito can overturn McCain Feingold so Corporations can buy more politicians along with the judges they own.

Wonder if McConnell has taken the time to do a little research over the appellate decisions of those on the current Supreme Court whose decisions were overturned. He might be quite surprised at what he finds.

By the way, I'm not sure McConnell wants to be the guy slamming someone over a single act in their lives. After all, wasn't he the one who placed Palin's name in nomination at the Republican convention last year? Don't worry Senator McConnell, we won't judge you solely by that action, but the igger body of work that you are building up ... well, no guarantees there.
