Sacha Baron Cohen On Letterman: Cohen Describes How "Bruno" Got To Interview A Real Terrorist (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction?

Sacha Baron Cohen, the British comedian behind "Bruno," went on the "Late Show" as himself (for a change) tonight to discuss making the highly-anticipated film. Among one of the more challenging aspects, he related, was figuring out how to set up a situation in which Bruno could interview a real terrorist.

Cohen and his team called to a "contact" they had at the CIA to help them out. The contact proved unhelpful, but, as Cohen relates, he was able to track one down anyway and sat down in the West Bank with the leader of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades.

There is a rumor that Sasha is secretly working on his next movie about a late night radio talk show host. He has been filling in for talk show host George Noory ("Coast To Coast AM") now and then but won't reveal which programs. We'll have to wait until the movie comes out.

Well if he wanted a terrorist he could have gone to Israel- their military is quite adept at terrorizing.

Nonetheless that was a funny bit.

Cohen is pretty good at getting people to sign releases. Lot's of people from the Borat movie tried to sue, but to no avail.

it was nice to see this guy out of character. he seems like a funny guy. but both of his characters are too irritating for me to even give the movies a chance. it's just not my type of comedy.

Ah, Sir. Nice to see you back in men's clothing. After two years. But it felt like ten.

So where would you look for a terrist? In 'Jobs' under 'sub-human resources'?

If he wanted to talk to a terrorist, why didn‘t he just interview Netanyahu?

Cohen is not funny. When will he just go away? He reminds me of that sad sack comedian that became a wrestler and later died. Weird and uncomfortable.

Why because he makes fun of the stupid dimwitted americans?

It ain't just stupid dimwitted Americans he makes fun of. There's plenty of those per capita the world over.

You must pay attention. Borat came to America in 2006 and Bruno in 2009. This was AFTER Da Ali G Show outed all the dimwits in Europe during the first half of the decade.

By any chance did he describe how he is going to go away and never, ever make another movie ever again? That would be awesome, 'cause this guy is England's answer to Tom Greene.

Hmmm.... "Oki" and "intellectual" .... now there's a contradiction in terms. LOL
But it is certainly laudable to aspire to be an intellectual.
Hint: Develop a better vocabulary. Read some high brow literature.
Perhaps we can help with a reading list.

I admit I didn't check what else OkieIntellectual has commented on, but I think your flame is over the top if it's just based on his distaste for the Cohen's humor.

Not everyone finds a given style of comedy fun, and what on earth is wrong with that?

Pretentious snob.

Hmm, my current reading list includes "Language Visable- Unraveling the mystery of the alphabet from A to Z", "Complexity: The emerging science at the edge of order and chaos" and a copy of Machiavelli's "The Prince" in Itallian.

But you go ahead an demonstrate the breadth and depth of your ignorance by continuing to stereotype Oklahomans as redneck cowboys who still drive herds of cattle down main street and wear six-guns to fend off those "savage redskins."

While you're at it please explain to the class, since you're obviously so sophisticated, why you would choose to attack me instead of agree with my dislike of the decidedly "low-brow" comedy of SBC? One can only assume that your flame is an obfuscated defense of SBC, which speaks volumes about your own sense of taste and culture.

First off, its "Okie", not "Oki." Try to get it correct before attempting to stereotype an entire state. Second, would you mind explaining to the class exactly how my username is a contradiction in terms? I mean, you're clearly so cultured and sophistocated that you MUST be able to present an informed, rational, and objective argument free of logical fallicies to back up your obfuscated claim that all Oklahomans are ignorant redneck cowboys.

Hey moderator, how about letting my comment through this time & give me a chance to defend myself against this unprovoked and unwarranted attack on my character and intellect? That would be really cool of you.

Comparing him to Tom Greene was a bit much. I don't think Tom Greene ever went for anything but a cheap laugh. Love or hate him, Cohen's at least aiming for something more. Sublime it is not, but Tom Greene?

It's great to see that Sacha Baron Cohen is just as funny out of character as he is in character.

Assuming that really WAS a real-life terrorist, and he really DID call the terrorist's hero Osama bin Laden a "homeless Santa Claus" TO THE TERRORIST'S FACE and lived to tell about it ... I'm sorry, but the guy has huge brass b@lls and he should get the Nobel Prize for Speaking Truth to Power. Nothing else really matters at this point. He could free-climb the Matterhorn and it wouldn't impress me as much as that.

Seriously!

My guess he'll try "real" acting. And if that doesn't pan out, then back to comedy.
