Syfy

Hollywood Reporter:

NEW YORK -- The Sci Fi Channel is now Syfy.

The rebranding -- same pronunciation, new spelling -- marks the NBC Universal network's effort to broaden its programming beyond the science fiction genre, and the network officially kicked off the new phase of its life here Tuesday.

What a horrible mistake they made when they canceled the firefly series, the precursor to the movie, Serenity. They didn't realize what they had...What a great series. Poor marketing, I guess. If only they could resurrect it with the same cast of characters, that would be a dream come true.

I can imagine no greater blunder. "SyFy" = NoPhly

Didn't board room types learn anything when the new Coke was wholeheartedly rejected?

Sci Fi...it simply works. SyFy...meanwhile, is an abdominal eyesore.

And that, 'imagine greater' tag...errmmm....yea...follow your own pitch there eh

I think the execs at NBC Universal have too many meetings.

That's how stuff like this happens.

Just saw a promo for the new name. If I wasn't aware of the change beforehand, I would have had no idea of what it was for.

This is the worst marketing call since new Coke. But hey--I'm sure it's sweeter.

I just hope this name change from "SciFi" to "SyFy" isn't accompanied by equally wishy-washy programming.

Makes me laugh...SyFy...dang. Long live literacy, eh?

NBC should have fired the idiots responsible for this branding disaster long ago. They should also hire some people who like science fiction to run the channel. Talk about abusing one of the most intensely loyal audiences in the market!

I've read a few media/marketing articles about it and basically the entire current fan base hates "siffy" The cable version of New Coke.

What difference will it make? The special effects are still gonna blow.
