President Obama, you promised change from shrub's policies. So where is the change.
Sir I voted and campaigned for you. Is this how we are repaid? If I was locked up and
humiliated for years I would naturally become the enemy of those who did it. So as I see
it, even though these folks are innocent we have to keep them locked up because they hate
us so much for what we've done to them that they may come back at us. That's like locking
up an abused woman to keep her from retaliating against her abuser. It's like a freaking
Brecht play.

Do you think they want to be released and have no place to go? Even many homeless people get themselves arrested so they could go to jail where it's warm and where they'll have three square meals a day. That's the reality.

Don't you think the Gitmo detainees need psychiatric help, good meals, protection, and physical help after the horrors they've been through under Dubya's regime?

If Pres. Obama wanted to, he could close down Gitmo with an executive order today, but what happens next? Their countries don't even want them back. They can't come to the U.S. because Congress said NO in May, and now they're stuck. The only way other countries might want to take on our mess is with lots of dollars, in the millions, but again, Congress blocked $80 million in funding for that in a 90-6 vote.

Why isn't Congress being held responsible for their part in thwarting President Obama's plan to shut down Gitmo?

What you say is true. I've just become so frustrated with the inability of our
government to move forward. I found that if you treat people with kindness
and respect most of the time it will be reciprocated. We are talking about
human beings that are being held in perpetual limbo. These aren't a load
of bricks. They are people with a limited life span. During WWII we treated
German POWs very well. Most accepted our type of democracy and many
still live here. The rest went back to Germany and became the foundation
of a new state. We should be teachers, not torturers. My love to you and
your's.

But Barry I thought you were going to close Club Gitmo! What happened to your promise to set the innocent free? Please Barry tell me it is not so! Just another campaign promise broken by the One. Or perhaps, you were just lying to get the lib vote and once that happened you decided to off load them since they served their purpose and are now expendable.

Dear President Obama,
Remember that really important word you were looking for in a Supreme Court Justice? The word was "Empathy." Well check it out-I looked it up on dictionary.com and here is the definition:
"the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes
of another."
Cool definition huh? Well anyways, I was wondering if you had ever thought of trying it out for yourself? My guess is no for a couple of reasons:
1) Have you thought about how it would feel to be acquitted of charges yet still retained in jail because someone who doesn't even know you thinks you could be dangerous?
2) Have you thought about how it would feel to have your family bombed by a drone missile even though they had not been involved in any militaristic activities against the US?
3) Have you thought about how it would feel to have been removed from your partner's deathbed or removed from the military because you were gay?
4) Have you thought about how it would feel to die or our go bankrupt because of unavailable healthcare?
5) Finally, have you ever thought about how it would feel for an American to endure 8 years of lawlessness and treachery from a President, then promised "Change" and the resumption of our liberty, humanity, and pride only to be lied to and stabbed in the back
You are a hypocrite and shame us and yourself daily with your actions.

I feel the joy and I feel the pain of others and act to to keep my soul intact. Empathy is essential to understanding the bonds that connect us all with each other and our Earth. Your letter to Obama is eloquent and profound in that I feel Obama has betrayed his own soul. May he hear your words and those of others who feel - really feel -. and Act for justice and abandone his folly.
Thanks

Once more--

For DustinTime, PK and FZ--

Every time someone posts what I happen to have concluded myself, I feel a little piece of my heart die. I know then, that it isn't just me. It suddenly becomes more real and worse by some infinite factor.

Yes, this program of oligopoly has been in the works for a long long time. We are now at the point where the Goldmans of the world seemingly have no fear and operate right out in the open. Conspiracy has become the new norm--business as usual.

Hillary won't call the takeover in Honduras a Coup, Bill touts the safety of the streets of Haiti four years after their president was kidnapped and sent to Africa and the UN troops massacred hundreds on those same streets. And Goldman tell the G8 what their agenda will be while ramming their cap and trade bill through our congress to create the next wealth bubble--that we will pay for.

All while our shining new President can't seem to bring himself to follow a few simple laws that have worked for ages. And we, as usual, fall for the divide and conquer red vs blue b. s. that keeps us at each others throats and too weak to challenge the system.

I once believed in the people of this country. Not the leaders. Now...

What is left can be repaired. But what Obama has given us is hope that HE will do what? It is up to us to repair our communities and go from there. The act of individuals to do good is well established. It is our collective consciousness that will enable us to make decisions that benifit our family, community and our Earth.
Obama is in our way... so lets us go around him, acknowledge his power and take ours seriously!

So why go through the expense of Closing Cmap x-ray and trials if you plan to not release them.

Did the Obama Administration admit that the closing of Camp X-Ray and the trials are a poltical show and nothing more?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:37 PM on 07/08/2009

more and more every day I think the democrats that swept Obama into power are realizing that the whole campaign was a political show and nothing more.

Obviously the numerous people that have been released only to return to the fight demostrate the need to hold ALL combatants until the end of the conflict - Obama promising otherwise either shows (once again) his lack of knowledge and experience or his talent for making promises he knows to be untrue.

either way the nation and the world come out on the short end of the stick - the only bright side here is that the democrats were able to seat Al Franken... think about it - AL FRANKEN...

talk about a joke - - -

Hope is for each of us. It is not for others. Hope keeps our soul intact and enables us to inspire our SELF to act in ways that is good for Mother Earth and ALL of humanity.
iI is my hope that I can affect the Universe in ways that inspires happiness and goodness.
My hope is that others know this as well.

I fear for humanity. I fear the wrath of hatred and power of people within the "government" has ended tha quest for justice and replaced it with tyrannical decrees against ALL of us. Justice denied one person is denied to us all. I fear for myself and my family. I fear they will be the unlucky ones ; the ones whose homes will be invaded by thugs in uniforms unfamiliar to them. Perhaps contracters who replace government officials; hired by secret agencies of OUR government. I fear Pandora's Box is wide open, as though hope and dreams swirl down the drain of reality that Obama's transparency is all to clear to all but the ignorant - that Obama's transparency is apparently that he is either too weak to save our rights, or too afraid to challenge the powers that make him, not a leader, but a pupet of a new world order resembling nothing I dreamed of before, but now a nightmare to be taken seriously.
My country tis of thee, you are bleeding....

THIS is the ANOTHER quagmire left to us by the Bush Administration.

To TRY & skirt the Geneva Convention.. they INVENTED a BOGUS classification (they're good at that) called, "Unlawful Combatant" so that the "detainees" (another euphemism with no connection to REALITY) could be held indefinitely without charges, without representation.... "non-persons".

WHY?

Because there was NO WAR.

We WALTZED in to THEIR country UNPROVOKED.... took PRISONERS based on loose innuendo & private vendettas & spirited them away to a GULAG we built in Cuba.

MOST were innocent.

NOW, we are saddled with what our Supreme Court has ruled as illegal detention... without an option to give a FAIR trial to those we kept there because they were TORTURED & the testimony derived from that is INADMISSIBLE.

We have some SERIOUSLY perverse opinions floating around this thread as to what HUMAN RIGHTS these "detainees" have.. including a LAWYER.. ANOTHER thing that this SUPREME COURT has ruled in their FAVOR.

Either we are a Nation of LAWS.. or we are NO better than those who we purport to be battling with.

AMERICAN VALUES.

If a person is tried & ACQUITTED.. they MUST be released.

PERIOD.

We can't start considering OBSCENE notions of a "thought crime"..... incarcerating ANYONE for what some people suspect they "MIGHT" do "SOMEDAY".

Sorry, sports fans... but this CAN NOT HAPPEN.

Exactly. So what is this indefinite detention BS? More acts if inhumanity on top of Bu$h's atrocious war crimes?
We tortured them, the "evidence" is garbage - release them.

Is our government so determined to conceal the extent of our country's criminality that there will be no limits as to how they quash the evidence?? Indefinite detention of these tortured prisoners is in lock step with Bu$h's "the end justifies the means" tactics.
This chills me to the bone.

This is a GLOBAL PROBLEM.... & that is the way it needs to be approached.

"A global downturn requires a global response. But so far our responses--to stimulate and regulate the global economy--have largely been framed at the national level and often take insufficient account of the effect on others. The result is that there is less coordination than there should be, as well as a smaller and less well-designed stimulus than is optimal. A poorly designed and insufficient stimulus means that the downturn will last longer, the recovery will be slower and there will be more innocent victims."

-- Joseph E. Stiglitz Nobel Laureate for Economics

This is a MUST READ for anyone who TRULY wants to understand this crisis. I agree with most.. take issue with some.. but it is ESSENTIAL.
