Here is a related warning particularly if you are pregnant: If you have well water as a source of drinking water, have it tested for nitrates. I did exactly that, and the nitrates were so high I was told not to drink the water.

Of course solids and liquids intake into the human body results in long life, short life, sickness and health.
A person does not need to be a brain nerologist to know such, simply use the common sense most are born with.

Have a healthy day and follow the middle way to the long life.

I was told that Muhammad Ali was doused with insecticides when he trained in the PA hills to keep bugs off him while he ran.

Don't trust anything that doesn't occur naturally in the environment.

At 68, I haven't eaten meat since I was 40, never ate much before that since my budget wouldn't permit it. But as factory farms brought more meat to the public and put in the public conscience that it was a component of one's wealth status, people seized the opportunity to have it on the table every night, and eventually for all 3 meals.

Most American diets are horrible, and organics shouldn't cost more than factory foods. We could eliminate at least 50% of our medical costs if people became educated about what to eat, and fought the food industry. Mfg'd food found in supermarkets is just not normal. Slow down and cook food yourself; if you're a family, make it a group effort and your children will benefit from the knowledge. Most restaurant portions are obscene, if not bad for you, and a 120 lb basically sedentary woman doesn't need as much food as a 180 lb man who does heavy physical labor. It takes education to figure out what your food intake, and the components of it, should be on a daily basis. The American Way is always "the more, the merrier." Resist it.

I don't think so in the case of Fox
He seemed to have health problems all his life relating to some kind of growth irregularity
He looked like a teenager well into adulthood, which probably made him a good choice for a teen idol type star. Obviously not nearly as serious as Gary Coleman or someone like that, but he has some kind of growth problem.

In theory I suppose that such a condition could actually fit into the theory that parkinsons is environmental. So for instance maybe it wasn't his other more minor condition that led directly to parkinsons, but more the basic unhealthyness of some part of his body let the parkinsons develop

Eat raw.

Eat organic.

Buy as much as you can at framers' markets.

Eat organically-raised meat once a week -- if you must. No red meat. Organic dairy rarely -- if you must.

Then you'll escape.

I would have to agree with you completely. It is not easy (nor cheap), but it is worth the effort if you can do it.

There are other studies that show pesticides and mercury (not from fish but from dental work) may also be responsible for causing Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Better living through Chemistry.

I hear ya, I've had so much almagam in my mouth from dental work, I could probably set off an airport metal detector, lol. And yah, I've always wondered about the health consequences behind it. But as is usual in these United States, consequences be damned, profit at all costs!

At your next dental visit, ask your dentist to check your fillings to see if they are "loose" - they usually understand that this means you want them replaced, & you can fill them with composite instead. Insurance usually covers replacement fillings :)

Years ago I heard Michael J Fox say he was addicted to diet coke and drank it all day and everyday. Later, I read a health article about the correlation between aspartame and Parkinson's and other auto-immune disorders.

There seems to be a correlation between artificial sweeteners and everything from weight gain to manic depression. Google "artificial sweeteners warning"

I heard that about MS, too. That much aspartame or, indeed, sugar is not good for anyone.

There is definitely something addictive about Diet Coke, and I mean that literally, and from experience. I knew the daughter of one of the scientists who discovered aspartame, and the scientist did not allow his family to ingest the stuff. In fact, he vehemently forbade it in the house, and finally admitted to the family that it caused brain damage. It was when his daughter shared this secret with me, that it confirmed to me how terribly dangerous the stuff is. Best not to drink Diet Coke, and I agree that the aluminum can doesn't help, as exposure to aluminum is also related to Parkinson's disease.

Thanks for the article. I stopped eating nitrate food awhile ago cause I thought I felt crappy from it. But then I have many food sensitivities. Some foods I bite into are biting me back!
But.... I do wonder about the nitrate soil thing.

This is a fascinating article. I wish it had mentioned the use of nitrates (or it is nitrites?) in wine. I also wish that it had discussed whether "organic" produce is significantly superior -- i.e., because (presumably) nitrate-based synthetic fertilizer is not used in growing it. In other words, it would be great if some investigative journalist were to run with this story and gave us a broader breakdown of which foods and beverages contain the most nitrates and nitrites. Another question for that hypothetical journalist: Does the fact that nitrate fertilizers make their way into public water supplies mean that "bottled water" is significantly superior? Is there are way to filter nitrates and nitrites out of tap water? I could easily run out of space thinking of more questions to ask.

It's sulfites in wine. Same concept though since it's used as a preservative. As far as I know, the common consumer water filter do not remove nitrates or nitrites.
