Bing is the usual half-hearted, ill-conceived Microsoft product. Using it to search for images yesterday was exceedingly lame, confused and unsuccesful.

Uh, no, it's more like for their entire history. Don't forget, Gates and company never even wrote their original operating system, DOS. Nor did they write the modern version of Windows - Windows NT, the foundation of all following MS operating systems was in fact from Digital Equipment Corporation and Microsoft got it by scooping up David Cutler who had run an operation called DEC West out of Seattle. (And there was a lawsuit wherein MS lost to DEC, monies were paid, more was pending and when World Trade Center 7 was pulled, the "original records were lost," thereby ending the lawsuits.)

So, of course when they don't even write their most major product, the operating system, they aren't worried about getting smaller pieces from other people, too.

Microsoft has _never_ innovated in anything but creative ways to commit antitrust violations and avoid prosecution or perform post lawsuit defense.

(Note that the only operating system they tried to do themselves, VISTA {still just a copy of NT}, was a huge flop.)

Bing has the worst scrolling ever. You scroll, find what you would like to explore, come back to Bing to explore some more and Bingo, you're right back where you started in the first place. What a waste of time, this means you have to be willing to scroll forever and ever, spending more of your time scrolling than surfing. I guess Microsoft prefers you scroll forever and surf less, this way they can train you to look forever at their advertisers not what you're after. Bill Gates is lazy, he's done nothing to improve his product or creatively develop any new approaches, he just either steals others ideas or buys small start ups outright. Can't stand Microsoft at all.

Microsoft's business plan for the past 30 years has been right out of the Standard Oil monopolization textbook.

They started by buying someone else's software and selling it to IBM. IBM didn't do this themselves because they were worried that they would be sued for their monopolization of the industry.

Ever since, Microsoft operates in one of two ways:
1. Offers stock in exchange for the target company and their technology
2. If that doesn't work, they go into competition and cut the prices of their often inferior product until the competition eventually goes out of business or is no longer able to compete.

Then the prices go up, up, up.

Stimulus is a joke of a concept; it doesn't end up with real economic growth in the long
tem. Even the New Deal failed to increase private investment. It wasn't until 1941 that
domestic private investment reached 1929 levels. The fact that the first stimulus has failed
to stop the bleeding yet isn't surprising. Our government deficit for the year which is over
20% of GDP (when the omnibus bill, first stimulus, bailouts, and on-budget deficit are
summed) is unsustainable and something's gotta give, whether it be the lenders or the
interest rates.

Totally agree. Also excited to hear they are coming out with an OS, I look forward to someday not having to deal with Microsoft at all.

The day of not having to deal with MS at all is already here.

First, you have Apple's Macintosh.

If that doesn't do it for you, you have modern Linux - which has come a VERY long way. The only problem with Linux now is that many licenses that you get "for free" when you run Windows you have to pay for. But, as you paid nothing for the operating system, you can then afford a little coin to get these licenses. (These licenses are for things like DVD player drivers.)

ALL your MS-based files, like files in the formats for Word, Excel, and so forth, all work under something called OpenOffice, which, by the way, is arguably a superior product to MS Office - some say VERY much better whereas I merely consider them equivalent. You can even go back and forth without difficulty - full compatibility.

Given the resources and the money that Microsoft has on hand, it is just beyond belief that they have not run Google out of the business a long time ago, like they did to Borland and Novell and Corel and Lotus and Symantec.

It is the beginning of the end when Microsoft has to work as hard as they can just to keep up.

Google has an advanced search, suspect you will see that on Bing, both are good and you get "almost" the same results. Bing has a way to go to catch up to Google though!

I tried it, it gave me weird results. Like it was making assumptions about what I would like because that's what's most popular.

Microsoft says that their slogan is "Where do you want to go today", but in fact it is really "Where do you want to be taken today"

One quality that Microsoft has is patience. Excel spent about three revisions being second class to Lotus 123 and Word about the same being way behind Wordperfect. Windows didn't become dominant over other alternatives like GEM or TopView until version 3. Bing is not a new product. Microsoft has been developing it for years as Windows Live Search.

Google is a lot more vulnerable than Microsoft. Microsoft has many revenue models and revenue streams. Google is pretty much totally dependent on being able to ride targeted ads on its content. And Google is riding on a P/E ratio that presumes huge continued growth in that one narrow revenue stream. If that looks like it is faltering Google will be hammered hard and fast by investors.

Most of what you said sounds like a good reason to advocate for reform of Corporate Law and regulating Wall Street.

When Microsoft produces a worthwhile product, I will start using it. This is not it, and I see no potential in it for me at all.

Microsoft only has TWO revenue streams: Office and Windows. Every other part of Microsoft bleeds money.

Uh. There are more than that, you forget how many technology companies they've acquired: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_companies_acquired_by_Microsoft_Corporation.

They also have Microsoft Games, Xbox 360, Visual Studio, and Server 2008 among other things.

Word is still inferior to WordPerfect, and no, it's not a matter of preference, it's a matter of practicality.

I had to finally go try it. Do not like it at all, but it is at least better than ask, or answers. In general I prefer the technology where I decide the parameters of the search and the filtering, as opposed to the push type where others decide for you and help your decision-making with ads. Same with most webware really and goodies like Adwords that I go out of my way to disable.

What a load of BS. I tried the shiny new bing thing and I personally find it gives OK results. It sure has gotten a PR push from alot of bloggers and news outlets lately though. Hmmmmmm, I wonder what kind of incentive M$ is offering in it's promotion? It's definitely not better then google.

If a person knows how to get the most out of google there is NOTHING they cannot find.

Agree. I like that Google gives you paid ads to the right and pure hits as the main text.

I'd like to see ads too sometimes, but not at the expense of my results.
