The Dallas Morning News:

The Dallas Police Department has cut back on some of the additional protection that the department provided around the Preston Hollow home of former President George W. Bush.

In addition to the usual Secret Service protection, Dallas until last week had stationed one on-duty tactical officer per eight-hour shift on the street outside the president's home. The estimated cost of that service was $300,000 for about a year, according to police officials who asked that they not be named.

Great idea and his robber baron buddies can pass the hat, privatization and free-market capitalism at work. Don't the Republicans appreciate the poetry in that?

I wouldn't be surprised if they or Halliburton already stepped up to the plate. After all, they spent a lot of time at his collection plate.

The estimated cost of that service was $300,000 for about a year, according to police officials who asked that they not be named.

“We just had to cut it,” said one police official, who agreed to speak on the condition on anonymity. “We’re about to layoff people.”

It's part of the entitlement program that rethugs are always against for the ordinary citizen, but utilize form themselves.

A citizen asked Chuck Grassley at a town hall why can't average people have there healthcare plan, he answered become a federal employee. Thats what I call a "let them eat cake" moment, really cynical. A comment like should cost him his seat and I hope some future challenger beats him over the head with it.

It's his fault really, he's ruined the economy and now it has come back to bite him. LOL !!! Leave it to Georgie to screw things up, even for himself.

You know, I can't stand the man, I think that he's the most dangerous President we've ever had, but this is kinda ridiculous! If it's determined from a security point of view that the officers are not needed, that's fine, but if it's financial, then the Secret Service needs to ask for more money to pay for the officers!

Why doesn't his buddy Rick secessionist Perry assign a state police detail. Rove hand picked Perry to ascend to the throne after George went to Washington, he owes him that much. Maybe Bush's oil buddies can chip in, pass a 10 gallon hat.

Because it's OUR job to pay for his protection in the form of the secret service until January 21, 2019

These aren't Secret Service officers being cut, this is a Dallas PD swat team that has been there to shut down a PUBLIC street. He still has SS protection and in fact WE THE TAX PAYERS bought the house next door to his for them.

I know that the Secret Service is protecting him. I'm saying that if they needed the extra security from the Dallas PD in the first place, then they should have offset the costs. I'm also saying that if he needs the extra security, then removing it just because of financial reasons is not acceptable.

I DID read the article, and your post is the problem. I KNOW that it's Dallas PD providing the extra security, but if the extra security is needed then the Secret Service needs to pry the funds loose to pay for it!

Well I guess "W" will have to let the free market do it's job and spend some money and hire some
people for security.

This is what happens when Rethugs are in charge they don't want to pay taxes so then the rest of society is denied the services of police and fire.

The greed of these multimillionaire repubs. Unbelievable.

He makes hundreds of millions of dollars (most likely safely stored in the Cayman's) from government and war, and still wants additional police protection paid for by tax payers in addition to the secret service we'll be paying for, for the rest of his life??

Bush has plenty of money, due to his enabling role in our crony capitalist nation. If he wants extra security above and beyond the normal SS protection, he should pay for it himself.

Why should be subsidize the lifestyles of a multimillionaire? He's entitled to all the retirement perks of any other privilege, but why should Dallas citizens be required to pay for the privilege of having him live in their city?
