House Intelligence Chairman Silvestre Reyes has suggested Republicans would be well advised to avoid politicizing the intelligence authorizaton bill later this week in light of evidence that, he says, shows that the CIA "affirmatively lied to" the panel.

In a Tuesday letter to his committee's top-ranking Republican, Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, that was obtained by Congressional Quarterly, Reyes, D-Texas, wrote that the committee has recently received information that reveals significant problems with the intelligence agency's reporting to the panel.

chalk another one up to the "sacred institution" of MARRIAGE. Marriage is illogical, irrational, and designed to control people's behavior by keeping them domesticated and void of independent thought as well as spontaneity. it keeps folks from being with who they reallly want to be with as we evolve throughout life. meanwhile, religion and the divorce industry limitlessly propser. what a silly species humans really are...F marriage.

IF the republicans had been half a diligent when shrubie was in office, maybe they would not be as desperate for votes like they are now. Now, no matter how diligent they are, it will appear that everything they have been saying was a lie...............think about it.

Seems that you left out a few relevant parts of the article. Where the appropriations bill is being used to provide cover for Pelosi - this sounds an awful lot like a threat to the Rs not to interfere with the Dems covering of Madam Speaker's faulty memory.

And AIG?

The American International Group at its origins was linked to the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) the forerunner of the CIA. It grew from the Asia Life/C. V. Starr companies founded by Cornelius Starr who started his insurance empire in Shanghai in 1919, the first westerner to market insurance in China.

Starr served with the OSS during World War II, and the Starr Corporation, located in the same building as the OSS in New York, provided intelligence on shipping, manufacturing and industrial bombing targets in Asia and Germany. The companies' biggest shareholder was Starr International Company (SICO), a private holding company incorporated in offshore Panama and with principal executive offices in offshore Bermuda, to avoid U.S. regulation and taxes. Starr left Greenberg a large block of Starr International stock.

American International Group

(...) AIG is a public company. Its largest single shareholder with 13.62 percent of AIG stock is Starr International Company (SICO), a private company headquartered in the tax haven of Bermuda. Greenberg owns 21.86 percent of SICO. Forbes says Greenberg has a net-worth of $3.6 billion, making him the world’s 132nd richest man. Greenberg was elected AIG president in 1962, CEO in 1967 and chairman in 1989.

(...) Greenberg has enviable political clout, never so much in evidence as when, with the help of Henry Kissinger -- chair of AIG's international advisory committee and a paid consultant via Kissinger Associates – AIG became in 1995, the first company licensed to sell insurance in China. AIG was the only foreign firm that owned 100 percent of its license there.

Of course the CIA lied. That is what they do best, and Cheney had virtual control over what they did and said. If he told them to lie to Congress, especially to the Dems, and to manufacture false reports saying that they had been properly briefed, then it would have been done.

Look what they did to the so-called intelligenc on Iraq. THEY LIED, twisted, distorted, and cherry-picked the stuff.

Eisenhower's Farewell Address to the Nation
January 17, 1961

Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations.

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Yeah, no sh*t.

The CIA has been lying since it inception. The CIA is licensed to lie. They train to lie.

They can have secret budgets, secret prisons, secret weapons, secret whatever-the-hell-they-want. They can destroy evidence, not to mention innocent lives, if they feel like it.

Remember Iran/Contra? Lies.

And now they are far from the only act in town. You've got the NSA. The DIA. On and on...

There are, and have been, good people inside the CIA and other intelligence agencies, yes, of course. And the ranks towards the bottom are generally if not totally oblivious. But when they try to do the right thing, they can simply be Valerie Plamed, or Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffered.

If not worse.

"Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer is the military intelligence operative who recently went public with a controversial claim that a year before September 11, his top-secret task force "Able Danger" was able to identify the man who later turned out to be the lead hijacker as being connected to al Qaeda. He is gagged from talking to Congress."
