Washington Post:

Senate Democrats spent their first full day holding 60 votes just as they have spent the previous 2 1/2 years without such a supermajority: scrambling to find Republican support for their key initiatives in order to choke off potential filibusters.

I disagree with my libruul posters, Sen. Ensign is a great friend. He pizaid his buddy's wife and gave her son a job.

That's a good friendship.

Corporate campaign donations don't matter if your not in office. Take 2 minutes and make the call.
When we tie up their phone lines, it pisses them off to no end.

Here are the names of the e.n.e.m.y:

The 10 DINO Democrats:

1. Evan Bayh (IN)
2. Max Baucus (MT)
3. Maria Cantwell (WA)
4. Mary Landrieu (LA)
5. Blanche Lincoln (AR)
6. Patty Murray (WA)
7. Bill Nelson (FL)
8. Ben Nelson (NE)
9. Mark Pryor (AR)
10 Jon Tester (MT)

Take just a few minutes and get on the phone, call their offices. A Medicare structured Public Health Care option is non-negotiable. Be very clear, let them know that if they don't support this legislation and word it accordingly, that you will be voting them out of office asap.

Here is the link with every Senators phone number.

"The folks at home like bipartisanship?"
More than 70% of "the folks at home" want the option to buy health insurance from the government, too. Apparently that means less to Sen. Nelson than groveling for the approval of his pals in the party that destroyed our economic system beyond repair and now favors letting insurance companies (who refuse to compete with one another because they benefit from high cost of medical care) and the hyperinflationary medical-pharmaceutical industry squeeze the last few dollars out of us.
This 60-vote story flies in the face of simple majorities that did just fine by us for centuries. How the heck can anything get done when the bar is raised to 60 votes? Nonsense! Of course, it doesn't get done. I say let them filibuster 'til they turn blue. Sooner or later, they will get tired, and we will get affordable insurance and care.

I don't know, maybe I'm depressed or maybe I'm discouraged or maybe I'm just too cynical. But I don't see things changing for the better. I see Congress and the Senate mired in politics, and bureaucracy, and in-fighting, and lobby influence so badly that nothing that's actually good for the majority of those not in power will ever happen. The President seems like a good guy who wants to do good but I just think the odds are too stacked against him. I need a vacation.

It doesn't matter if the democrats have 60 seats or not. Their corporate campaign donors will still tell them what to do and they won't work for their constituents. The republicans will do the same. There won't be any change or solutions to our problems until we get rid of both the democrats and the republicans who are both responsible for the destruction of the economy.

The dems have short memories. Imagine what the rep would do with that kind a power. I've often wondered what the problem is with the dems. I think they have a problem with authority, even when they're in charge.

We did see what the GOP did with that kind of power from 2001-2007 and it wasn't pretty. We'll be paying for that little spree for years.

What the f**k is wrong with the Democrats? They possess a larger majority in both the House AND the Senate, but somehow they weasel their way towards __compromise__? I live in California where spineless Democrats refuse to play hardball and stand up - is this congenital cowardice?

To echo several others here: elections have CONSEQUENCES. Why this embrace of bipartisanship when the electorate was so clearly against Republican policy and governance?

The senators who are sick and can't work should resign so that someone who can work takes over.

I think most Americans have figured out by now that if the Democrats had every seat in Congress, they still would not get anything substantial done on behalf of the American people. And anything they pass that is made to sound good, will end up filled with holes and padding someone's pocket (with money they weren't smart enough to figure out how to earn for themselves) at the taxpayers' expense.

It isn't about who is in Congress anymore, it is about who owns Congress and who is running Congress. And large interests are the ones doing that. They donate to both parties, not just one.

The US Congress, both parties, is a Congress of the status quo.

I hope Senator Franken (and Americans) works on that problem. Because until we do, there will be all kinds of talk from the hill, but no real change.

I have watched Harry Reid very closely over the past months - and I have noticed, that Harry Reid seems to have severe mental or psychological issues.

He always acts like he is bordering on a deep mental depression and is only able to keep working under the influence of strong pharmaceuticals (Lithium...?).

Under such conditions, it's no wonder that Harry Reid simply has no power left to do, what has to be done, to get the Democratic majority in the Senate to work efficiently.

Very valuable information, Thanks! I can understand why for all of them except Patty Murray. Washington state is pretty reliably blue. I know there is a redneck component there, just like there is in Oregon and California, but she'd hardly be in jeopardy by becoming a "real" democrat.
