Consummate Head of State? When the history is written, these early, important foreign trips will stand out as forming the basis for whatever they are able to accomplish.

Both Obama partisans and Clinton partisans were nervous about HRC at State but I think Clinton and Obama have proved a wonderful pairing. Obama's given her a free hand and in turn she's kept to his vision while offering her own advice and insight. Foreign policy is slowly but steadily improving around the globe. What more can you ask for?

They've proven to be far worse than I expected, and my expectations were low. Only a statist could be satisfied thus far.

Ahh,
The recurring problem of information presented through the MSM lens of celebrity.
This isn't S.Palin, Hillary can handle the issues so no need for drival about her "profile".
She has one of the most significant and powerful offices, and if she hasn't been grabbing the headlines, its because she has been rebuilding a decimated State Department, which the Machiavellians gutted.

I'll take quietly competent over a higher profile any day.

I imagine that this speech has been scheduled for quite some time. Also, Hillary has spoken before the Council on Foreign Relations in the past.

I'm kind of tired of hearing this purely media-generated narrative that there is somehow a power struggle in the Obama adminstration when it comes to foreign policy. We have probably one of the most well-coordinated foreign policy apparatus in many years. Just look at the Iran response: it was smooth, slick, with nary a hitch. You don't get that when there is a power struggle going on.

As for Hillary's influence? She was a leading voice for the new direction in Afghanistan (apparently over-ruling Biden). She secured a 10% increase in State's budget. And, she has implemented some pretty smart structural changes (splitting the assistant role into two - management and policy). I guess you don't hear about these in the news because these aren't sexy enough.

Sounds like a reasonable thing to do after being out for awhile. It's important that she gets back into the foreign policy debate and allows the Prez to turn more attention to pressing domestic matters. I'm sure this was cleared with Obama and has his blessing; he knows how to manage effectively.

Will she talk about her time on the Board of Directors for Wal Mart, where employees do not receive adequate health care and the company regularly cheats its employees?

She will talk as Secretary of State of the United States of America and that is the experience and voice that matters.

That is not the topic of the speech, but if you really want to hear about it, perhaps we can talk about the fact that she pushed Wal-Mart into adopting many, many green policies when she was on the board, as well as tried to implement gender-equitable hiring practices. Yes, she could have probably done more about health care for Wal-Mart employees, but hoenstly, it is only possible for one person to do so much. She was the only woman on the board, and given that limitation, I'd say she was pretty effective in pushing forward a few key policies.

Only someone who doesn't understand the positive affects she had on WalMart would try to make this an issue.

How is it that yours are so low that you debase yourself by mocking the afflicted? You know we're all out of our minds - that we have nothing to offer - we are, in fact, handicapped and defective - and yet here you are, night after night, tormenting the misbegotten. For the love of God and all things decent, can't you leave us to writhe in misery without you?

See the light of day under Obama is not her main problem. She has stated a very sensible and balanced approach to the very serious middle east crisis and this is where she will make her mark.

She has to show immense skill in maintaining a position that has the interest of all countries in the middle east while avoiding a knife in the back from the home grown Jewish power elite that has way too much control in this country. She may well display a far greater leadership than Obama, who is proving to be more rhetoric than substance.

She's been Sec of State for six months, and while I support her and expect good things from her, she really hasn't had the opportunity to accomplish much yet...your dismissal of Obama after the same six months is pretty disturbing..the election is over...Hillary will succeed only if Obama does.

Hillary will succeed only if Obama does.

Sorry but that's a little narrow and simplistic.
One can still judge the merit of individuals within the administration.

Of all his Cabinet members, Secretary of State Clinton may be one of the best. However, if she is to be an effective Secretary of State, she needs to discuss her job description versus the President's CEO position.
The present frenetic pace of the President in doing the work of his Cabinet members, if continued, will have dire consequences. Why hire a staff member if you are going to do his or her work. Mrs. Clinton needs to lay it on the line. "Either you give me authority with the responsibility of Secretary of State or you can get somebody else for the job." Be crystal clear and honest. That is a mark of good character.
If esident Obama continues to do his subordinates' work, it will sooner or later break him down while creating dissention, distrust, sycophancy, rumor, self-interest behavior and so on within his Administration. My best advice is for him is to stay glued to his desk. talk less, listen more, and delegate, delegate, delegate. And read and study constantly. And always delegate sufficient authority with responsibility. And re-study the resumes of every staff member. You (may) have made serious mistakes in personnel selection. This woud be a refreshing change in President Obama's leadership repertoires.

You really have no facts. The President has spoken and appeared when the President is needed and not the Secretary of State.

themodernleader is right. Obama has been all over the map doing many of the things that would normally be the responsibility of the Sec of State. He's out of the office way too much and it shows in his performance as Pres (his falling poll numbers confirm this). He should focus on his own responsibilities instead of doing Hilary's job.

(p.s. the only thing idiotic is your apparent blind worship of obama)

All she wants to do is get back to the Job she was appointed to after missing out on several important meetings, whatever progress or successes she makes Obama will get credited for it. Hillary has proven to be a team player and people reading anything other than that are just being spoilers just has they were in the campaign. There will not be any Democrat that will go up against Obama in 2012 unless Obama choose to retire and that I doubt will happen.
