In Russia, Obama Star Power Fails To Excite

The New York Times:

Let other capitals go all weak-kneed when President Obama visits. Moscow has greeted Mr. Obama, who on Tuesday night concluded a two-day Russian-American summit meeting, as if he were just another dignitary passing through.

How bout some stories about how Obama went to Russia to negotiate for land routes from Russia into Afghanistan needed for heavy munitions and military equipments such as tanks and was denied!

You're being misleading. There is a highly signnificant new agreement to use the Russian airspace. Here's a quote from July 5th NYT:
"The new airspace agreement represents an important step. Until now, Russia has restricted use of its territory for the Afghan war to railroad shipments of nonlethal supplies. Under the new arrangement, officials said, planes carrying lethal equipment and troops will be allowed to make as many as 10 flights a day, or thousands a year over Russia."
And from Wednesday's Times, report on important progress on other fronts:
" Among other things, the two leaders agreed to slash strategic nuclear arsenals, resume military contacts suspended after the war with Georgia and open an air corridor across Russia for up to 4,500 flights of United States troops and weapons to Afghanistan each year."
That's a heck of a lot of plane trips to move a lot of equipment and personnel, much needed.

It's interesting that Russia is a much more closed society than perhaps even Saudi Arabia, Egypt and even Iran! Keeping their people in the dark and not allowing coverage. Pretty sad, but President Obama handled himself extremely well and he did achieve some concessions from the Russians regarding nuclear arms, so that's what matters in the long-run.
