AllThingsD:

Depending on your perspective, this is either interesting news or heartening news: Michael Jackson's funeral and memorial was indeed a giant Internet event. But it doesn't seem to have been as big as Michael Jackson's death, and it wasn't as big as Barack Obama's inauguration.

So let's call it the third-biggest Web event of the year. To date.

How do you compare an inauguration to a funeral? They are two totally different events. I think HP is losing your grip. It is like you are trying to find a reason to push the MJ event down to a not as important status. HP this is low even for you!

I'm getting a little whiff of racism. What's the connection between these two events, other than the fact that it involves two black men?

Please explain! Are you suggesting that coverage of black men is racist? I'm not understanding your "whiff?"

No, the comparison. There is no need to compare the two events. The common denominator is both are African American men.

Would anyone ever compare the funeral of Reagan to a Bush inauguration? No.

So what, it disgustingly "dominated" the airwaves.

I had to turn to reruns and c-span to get away from this endless barage of Michael worship.

It almost felt like being back on the campaign trail with Barack Obama.

A kooky Has-been vs. leader of the free world? Ratio of web traffic seems correct.

I'm not so sure about the "has-been" part. I'd be willing to bet that the tour he was planning would have been a great success. We'll never know.

No way he was a has been. The tickets that sold for his concerts for July sold out. A has been can not sell anything out.

....and, what is the point? I don't think MJ's millions of fans were thinking 'we have got to outdo the inauguration'. Please!!!

Well that is how it should be. I'm actually glad to hear that the swearing in of the first black American president was more popular than the funeral of Michael Jackson.

Finally, America had it's priorities straight for half a second!

I knew it wasn't going to flop when I heard that they couldn't even fill the stadium.

How can a memorial "flop"? What a senseless and heartless thing to say!

FYI -- they WERE filled. 18,000 were those fans selected to attend and the remaining 2,000 were family, friends, celebrities, and colleagues that came to pay their final respects.

It was reported that there were a bunch of empty seats & they had to go out & give seats away. Just say'n.

That service was no where near to being a flop. It was by far one of the best memorial services I have ever seen. Perhaps you should stop listening to your sources. Their information is no good.

Exactly

Why would it have been as big? Pres. Obama is the leader of the free world. I'm not belittling Jackson, though. He is the greatest entertainer of the modern era. Period.

Have to disagree. The man had not released a decent album in what, 25 years? In my book, that does not make you the "greatest entertainer of the modern era".

He was called the greatest entertainer who ever lived. And please let us know whether 1.6 million people will want to attend a memorial/funeral service in your honor?

Michael last CD was Invincible in 2001 which was a hit went triple Platinum; 2008 he release a song with ACON which was a major hit which stayed on the charts over 50 weeks; ACON CD was a huge hit because he and Michael's son debut at number 1. My god, people between Donnie Dooush whining about too much coverage, CarlsoWatson complaining that Michael's daughter crying was staged and now according to this article he wasn't as liked as Obama; you people will make up a story just for the sake of keeping the coverage going while complaining there is too much coverage.

I must say, I was really disappointed in CarlosWatson today; maybe his beef is that the Michael Coverage took away his show time; I mean my god what could CarlosWatson talk about that is more important, oh I see Sarah Palin resigned; oh I see, Mark Sanford cheated on his wife; oh wait Jeb Bush is actually going to be running in 2012, yes I get it, those two stories are more pressing than Michael Jackson because they are much more known through out the world and they affect our daily lives and if we don’t hear about them more Americans lives will be on the brink as CarlsoWatson put it. Well I tell you this, I am not at all comfortable of what CarlsoWatson’s personality is starting to exposed I don’t know how much longer I will entertain his show.

It’s funny that the people on this network that are complaining happen to be MEN!

Exactly, because I was watching it on cnn's video until it came on local tv. The Staples Center had some type of technical glitch and CNN.com didn't have audio for the first few minutes, so I watched it on tv, which was just better. I watched it on CBS with Katie "talked too much" Couric.
