ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin spent another day on the move in far-flung locations Wednesday at a time when many Alaskans remain mystified over her decision to step down and not finish out her first term.

The Republican governor racked up more air miles as she traveled to the small town of McGrath, an off-the-road hamlet of about 300 people in the interior part of the state. She signed an obscure bill extending the termination date of the Board of Veterinary Examiners. The bill is summed up on the state Legislature Web site in 18 words.

Palin did take time to tweet on her Twitter account, alluding to her sudden decision to resign.

"Today, try this," the governor tweeted. "Act in accordance to your conscience _ risk _ by pursuing larger vision in opposition to popular, powerful pressure."

Palin has been a busy traveler since her bombshell announcement Friday. She has flown at least 2,300 miles _ about the distance from Los Angeles to Miami in a journey that has skipped Anchorage and Fairbanks, where nearly half of the state's population resides.

She flew first to Juneau, a distance of about 570 miles, where she briefly watched the capital city's Fourth of July holiday parade. Juneau is Alaska's third largest city but except for the parade stop Palin flew largely under the radar.

Then, it was off to Bristol Bay about 860 miles away and the town of Dillingham _ sizable by Alaska standards at about 2,300 people but also off the road system _ where she donned waders and helped haul in salmon nets at the family's commercial fishing operation.

From Bristol Bay, Palin flew about 560 miles to the remote Arctic town of Kotzebue, where she signed a bill to bolster law enforcement in rural villages.

In McGrath, Palin greeted the crowd, shook hands and signed autographs.

During her appearance, McGrath radio station KSKO reported Palin told a joke about a man who brings his dog to a veterinarian. She also got the crowd laughing when talking about the bill that the governor said will improve veterinary care in Alaska.

"This bill ... it passed both houses unanimously. That is kind of rare down there in Juneau, to see a cooperative effort to get a bill passed," the governor said, eliciting laughter from the crowd.

"Oh, if you only knew. Oh goodness gracious," Palin said.

It's not just Anchorage and Fairbanks residents who are being left out of the loop.

Alaska House Speaker Mike Chenault, R-Nikiski, said Palin didn't inform him ahead of time that she was going to resign.

"It would have been a little nicer to know," Chenault said. "But then it didn't surprise me, because the governor has done a lot of things she hadn't told anybody about."

"the family's commercial fishing operation"

it's the much mentioned family commercial fishing business which actually DOESN'T exist.

big ol' super dude todd works in the oil field.

the exxon oil spill pretty much wiped out the fish population in todd's home town.

Bush Alaska, Bristol Bay in particular, overwhelmingly think negatively of Sarah Palin. Eversince her pro-open pit mining stance, whereby she and family members accepted gifts from Pebble Mine supporters and her infamous 'personal' stance on Pebble Mine days before a vote on an important Clean Water initiative.

The fact that she used her hubbie's set net site as a photo op was another slap in the already red faces of Bristol Bay inhabitants. If she practiced what she preached Palin would not be fishin', flyin' and doin' the lame-duck thing.

Sarah Palin is a lame duck and is doing what she said she resigned to avoid -- traveling all over on government dollars, not really getting anything done. And, her own complaint she filed against herself with our state's personnel board -- it will end up costing over $500,000. Her truth is certainly interesting reading.

I love visiting this nest of vipers....

I can just see all the liberal crazies on this site dribbling out of their mouths while they have seizures everytime they think about Palin and getting headaches as they come up with all these hateful comments on Palin.

I hope you all realize that by attacking her all this time you set up the situation for her to resign and now she is going to give you fits for the foreseeable future and actually help defeat a whole lot of Democrats and help Conservatives.... not the GOP.... drive out the One, the Obama, who will end up only serving his one horrible term.

LOL, this will be fun.

Actually, it's more likely Palin will split the Republican party and assure another Obama victory. Only fools, racists and brainwashed people will support her now, and there (fortunately) aren't enough of those to win an election. If you think Palin can win an election for anyone after the damage she caused McCain, you're the crazie.

Newsflash, Gov. Palin distorted the truth AGAIN. The ethics complaints are not costing Alaskan people extra monies, the lawyers that are defending her are already budgeted. So they either work for their salary or they get it anyway.

Gov. Palin is not a shrewed person, she is narcissistic. She may be a good mom and love her kids and has a good marrige, I think this appeals to a lot of Christian Conservatives who are the base of the Republicans, but it does not make for a good leader.

This problem narcissistic allows her to speak as though it is justified in her mind that cheating and lying are OK because the ends justify the means.

Tthe media is a bit hard on her, but unfortunatly she helps out way too much. We are a FABLOID society, why do you think there are so many reality shows? National enquierer, Jerry Springer, US and People magazines. Freak shows sell like hotcakes. As long as ratings are up they keep going with the cash cow.

I think her speech at the RNC when the election started did her a big favor in giving her a platform on trying the old Popular Beauty Queen attack, hence all the winking, smitten the Repubs males. She is a sexy woman and uses her sex appeal to win hearts, but unfortunatly she starts to speak and the mind statrs to take over and see her for what she is not, unless you can't control your labido.

You say to win hearts. Very kind of you. I say that her dressing for men and eye winking is nothing short of manipulation.

Republicans Tweets will surely show up in the campaign ads to come, I can guarantee you--so right-winger keep right on tweeting away. Now we will get to know what and how they really think. Democrat politicians should stay away from the tweets this new communication will come back to haunt many.

Why, if she only has a few weeks left in office, is she not IN her office? Shouldn't she be there tying up loose ends and packing up her desk?

'cause she doesn't get to rack up the per diem if she's in her office.

Gladys, her main office is in her home .... she does little actual work, nobody sees how little she actually does - and she gets a daily per diem travel allowance that she doesn't even have to get out of bed for. It's a fabulous scam, you have to agree.

SP's daily calendar has almost daily inserts "wheels up", which refers to her flying somewhere. When she did show up at the capital, it looks like it was by plane, back and forth to her home office.
What does that cost?
