One of the chief reasons Sarah Palin has given for resigning as Governor of Alaska is that her state's taxpayers are being forced to spend money defending her government against ethics complaints that would otherwise fund teachers, cops, and road repair.

But in response to our questions, a spokesperson for the Alaska governor's office just gave us new information that casts serious doubt on this assertion. The revelation makes the resignation episode even stranger, and raises fresh questions about the real reasons for her abrupt departure.

She represents the worst aspects of our society, she is the embodiment of our darkest faults. She is an uneducated hateful extremist, and yes, it's frightening that anybody at all would ever consider voting for such a horrible human being.

With that being said, I don't think anyone is afraid of her actually winning the Presidency. Palin is only supported by conservatives. Most Americans aren't conservative, they're moderates. Moderates don't like Sarah Palin. I have friends who were going to vote McCain, but they switched to Obama after McCain picked Palin as his VP. You simply can't win an American presidential election without significant moderate support, and Palin is incapable of getting that. She's also not going to get any Democrat crossover votes, and there are going to be Republicans who won't vote for her either. She'd win a few states in the deep south, but the election itself would be a landslide. You're very naive if you think somebody that far to the right can win a Presidential election.

Just a reminder - she claims she wants to save Alaskan's from the cost of her continuing to be governer. Well she forgot to mention that the third in line would replace the Lt. Gov., he declined the job, a h.s. friend that she appointed. So that leaves open the Lt. Gov.'s position and the third in line remains open.

In order to fill those positions the Legislature has to approve. They are not in session. A special session has to be called, which according to reports does not please the legislator's at all. Beside's the fact it is going to cost a lot of money!

They'll never get the numbers they need from middle america. Even if they do, the non-middle America is probably a larger demographic, and more young people learned from this election what would have happened had they been apathetic. I'm not seeing a big move from the young people voting in this election hopping the mothership to rightwingnutville. Religious right or any right extremism just won't work for them. The idea of her winning the Presidency is absolutely absurd. The only people who like her are far ring wing conservatives. The majority of Americans are moderates, and they don't like her. You simply can't win a national election without significant moderate support. Also, Democrats don't like her, and liberals absolutely loathe her, so she isn't going to get any crossover votes. You also have to consider that there are a decent number of Republicans who don't like her either. I know people who would have voted McCain, but switched due to Palin.

There's a reason 70% of Americans support Colin Powell while only 30% like Rush Limbaugh. If the GOP doesn't shift to the center they are going to the way of The Whigs, except for the deep south.
