Ryan gosling seems to be genuinely interested in making his music, with out pretense or hopes of "starting a music" career. For a young, hugely successful actor, to be working with these kids shows he understands how important it is to give back. Setting an example, or being a unique and positive role-model is still (if not more) important nowadays.

i heard a little bit of his stuff on myspace-it's pretty sloppy, pretty morose sounding.

i think he's a very talented young man and seems genuinely nice as well but music may not be one of his strengths.

If you haven't seen Gosling in Lars and the Real Girl you're missing a fine performance in a fine "small' film. I've no idea about his musical talent so no comment.
