I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill O'Reilly took aim at President Obamas "lack of religion" on Thursday night while discussing Obama's meeting with the Pope on Friday. He stated that Obama is a "secularist" who rejects public spirituality and citing several incidents.

He claimed that Obama ducked a recent question about when life begins and criticized the Pentagon's recent decision to discontinue Air Force flights over the "God and Country Festival."

Listed alongside O'Reilly during his speech was the following: "The USA has become the strongest nation on earth largely because of its Judeo-Christian traditions. Someone remind Obama."

Secularists "are mainly concerned with things of this world, like global warming."

Watch:

Later, O'Reilly stated that he himself believes in global warming, getting into a tough argument with guest Laura Ingraham, who proudly touted that she was "stockpiling SUVs... I'm buying as many as I can."

When Ingraham claimed that the planet was getting cooler - O'Reilly cut her off and said, "Well, that's not what the temperature says."

Why should the president be religious? It's actually better if he isn't. That way he is more neutral and accepting of all Americans, not just the ones who follow his own personal faith.

By your logic, then, the President shouldn't have a party, either. Or a gender. After all, as a male Democrat, he might favor male Democrats.

How far do you want to take that analogy?

Our founders believed in religious freedom, a freedom that extends to office holders (see the no religious test clause). I think we should go with the founders' idea in that regard and allow Obama to be religious.

He can be religious if he chooses, but if he is so strongly religious, like, say, Palin, then it's hard to accept other points of view, especially when it comes to other religions. Being ultra-religious goes hand-in-hand with narrow-mindedness, no matter what the religion. I dont' care if he follows a faith, but just don't think it's wise for a leader to be a bible-thumper.

Absolutely pedantic. "By your logic, the president shouldn't have a gender?" That's blatant misrepresentation in a sophomoric attempt to undermine Alarmist's argument. But let's pretend he(?) did say that, or meant to say that. How, exactly, would one pull that off? "In the interests of fairness, from now on we can only elect androgynous hermaphrodites because only their opinions will be gender-neutral... oh, wait, except they'll favour androgynous hermaphrodies... crap!"

People choose their political ideology. People choose their religion (or lack thereof). Even if they're indoctrinated so early on that they don't actually choose to adopt their beliefs, they have the choice as they go through life to maintain those beliefs or not. That is so *obviously* different from whether or or not one is male or female, and suggesting that any anyone's "logic" would overlook that difference is disingenuous.

Our Presidents religion or lack of religion is none of anyones' business. This is NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION! That is why so many people come here for religious FREEDOM! Bill needs to stop re-inventing american history.

You are right, our Presidents religion or lack of religion is none of our business. I am a firm believer of separation of church and state. I don't care if you are Catholic, Morman, Jewish, or Athiest. But, on the same note, this is a Christian Nation. Yes, we have religious freedom, but our laws and many of our national (and school breaks) are centered around Christian beliefs (Christmas and Easter). Our founding fathers wanted Christianity in school - "What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ.” [George Washington speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs May 12, 1779]. Many of our laws our based off of Christian beliefs.

I believe our religion is our own business but to say that we are not a Christian nation is a little off base.

We're a Christian nation, yes, in the sense that Christianity is the dominant religion. But our democracy itself is faith-neutral--our founders designed it that way. We are neither/nor on issues of secular vs. sacred.

Yes, our founders--contrary to the secular-nation propaganda--were not anti-religion as a group, but even if Washington wanted Christianity in school, the modern view is that no official endorsement of religion should occur in our democracy. Having students learn ABOUT Christianity (and other religions) would be a fabulous idea, but literally having religion in school--no.

So, we are a Christian nation in the sense that C. is the dominant faith, but not a Christian nation in the sense that any official religion exists. It's actually fairly simple....

And remember that Washington made his statement prior to the existence of public schools....

Before too-enthusiastically endorsing America's religious traditions, you might want to revisit the beliefs and practices of the Puritans who started the American colonies. How many citizens today do you suppose would live up to their expectations of conduct and how many would end up in stocks on the center of town? How many would be chastised for their 'decadent' Christmas observances that today's religious conservatives fight to defend?

Memories are short; before thumping the history books and invoking the authority of the ancestors, people should really read those books again and consider closely what our predecessors believed and what they'd think of us. Personally, I'm thankful for how many 'traditions' have been phased out, abandoned or changed since my country was founded.

Gawwwd. GOP is CONSTANTLY in the spot light for touting family values and religious piasness and then having affairs. Who is he kidding?

"He stated that Obama is a "secularist" who rejects public spirituality and citing several incidents."

Religion is anything BUT spiritual. The Bible says that if one doesn't kill unbelievers, blacks, slaves and women, then a person has no faith. To kill and discriminate are a show of allegiance to god. Gee. and we wonder why the human mind set is so full of hate and discrimination today. Thank goodness we have laws that limit biblical law, or nearly all of us would have been picked off by this fanatic.

Re-distribution of Group Think!

Via the Republican echo chamber that beguiles wooden headed puppets to think and vote against their own self interests. In exchange they are given the hope that someday they to will be wealthy.

I have seen the effects of a small percent of the American population hold a majority of the wealth in this country. Be careful what you wish for, if this country gets anymore financially top heavy it will collapse.
If this country's economy is 70% consumer driven and you have killed the middle class what will happen to this great nations economy?

As for Bill O, at least he is getting paid for spouting his nonsense and Laura I. is in need of
a personality and some intellectual depth......?

PS. Tax cuts for the Super Rich still in place, anyone seen the trickle down yet? been 9 + years!

Bill O'reilly is beginning to sound more and more like Sarah Palin. He has been saying things that really don't make any sense.

The whole world needs less religion.
The whole world is worse off with religion in it.
Religion would make me laugh harder at it if it wasn't so frighteningly disgusting.
This country was not founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Read a book other than the bible to find this information.
This country of ours is the "strongest" because of the Military Industrial Complex and Corporations raping and destroying any and all countries it gets its hands on. Just look at Latin America; trying to do the same in the Middle East but that's not going so well. Why am I even wasting my time with all of this?

ex-convent on C Street in Washington D.C.?

I am curious- Can you please enlighten us on the oldest Conservative Christian organization in D.C. We really need to be aware of the expenditures of that housing unit on C Street.

Can you please advise how an OB/GYN Doctor/Deacon/Oklahoma Senator Coburn- is immune from answering questions from any law in this country regarding his advice to bribe Senator Ensign's mistress and her family -
Please explain that?

The righteous Coburn of OK - advising Ensign of NV how to handle his mistress and her family!

"Mr. Hampton (husband of mistress) added that Coburn confronted Ensign and urged him to provide millions of dollars in assistance to the Hamptons to pay off their mortgage..."

Where would those millions come from sir?

Oh- that's right- the righteous OB/GYN does not have to disclose doctor patient relationship? Or as a Deacon- Clergy disclosure?

Does Coburn or Ensign pay rent at C Street?

How is that taxed?

Just a few questions

Hampton added that Coburn confronted Ensign and urged him to provide millions of dollars in assistance to the Hamptons to pay off their mortgage, in addition to getting Ensign to write a remorseful letter to Cynthia Hampton.

This is a typical BS article...O Reilly made comments on Reagan, and other presidents who did not attend church....Bill said he could care less whether someone goes to church or not....He said it was stupid to cancel a 40 year old tradition, and he is right....O Reilly said he approves Green Tech(as most people do)...we don't need to break the country to get it however...I could fix this in a week, and I'm not a politician...cap and trade is a tax to redistribute wealth...nothing more, nothing less....I seen the whole episode...when will Liberals understand Obama only gives you 1/2 of anything

What's wrong redistributing wealth? How is it the wealthy have conned us into thinking that only they deserve to have the money? Why do we agree that the wealthy have the right to form monopolies that charge us what ever they like? And we support this with the mantra of "free trade". Free trade is good to inspire new ideas, but only when it's fair.

With regards to the economy, trickle down doesn't work, on the contrary, but best use of money is to given it to the masses to spend.

Weath redistribution is a good thing, especially when it lets people keep the money they have earned.

Yes, I have always wondered how anyone supporting Capitalism can support giving money directly to corporations, via tax cuts or any other way. That seems anti-capitalist. Money should be given to the consumer, so that they can choose which corporations get the money. Isn't that the very definition of Capitalism? How is corporate welfare and redistributing wealth to the already wealthy somehow better?

Doesn't the rapidly increasing gap between the employee pay and CEO pay make "The American Dream" that much harder to achieve? 20 years ago it was 20x, now it is more like 400x.
