What's Your Reaction?

Bill O'Reilly took aim at President Obamas "lack of religion" on Thursday night while discussing Obama's meeting with the Pope on Friday. He stated that Obama is a "secularist" who rejects public spirituality and citing several incidents.

He claimed that Obama ducked a recent question about when life begins and criticized the Pentagon's recent decision to discontinue Air Force flights over the "God and Country Festival."

Listed alongside O'Reilly during his speech was the following: "The USA has become the strongest nation on earth largely because of its Judeo-Christian traditions. Someone remind Obama."

Secularists "are mainly concerned with things of this world, like global warming."

Watch:

Later, O'Reilly stated that he himself believes in global warming, getting into a tough argument with guest Laura Ingraham, who proudly touted that she was "stockpiling SUVs... I'm buying as many as I can."

When Ingraham claimed that the planet was getting cooler - O'Reilly cut her off and said, "Well, that's not what the temperature says."

Bill O'Reilly...another anchortainer at Fox News...what happened to your "religion" when you made unwanted/inappropriate sexual comments toward a lady acquaintance of yours? I can't speak for everyone, but I believe that since God created the earth, doesn't it make sense that we should strive to be good stewards of it? Yeah, BillO', wouldn't it be horrible if the world would join in the effort to make our air, land, and water clean again so future generations can live healthier lives?

Good points.

If Billy-Bob O'Really-Bob PRACTICED his religion, he wouldn't be on the tube every night spewing hate and lies.

Like most folks in the U.S., he worships the almighty dollar.

Personally I'm more concerned with what Pres Obama plans to do to fix the problems in this country...I could care less if he says *grace* or not. His going to church or praying isn't putting food on my table. I'm fed up with pious, sanctimonious blowhards thinking THEIR religion is the only one...

**Supreme Court Justice Harry A. Blackmun - “When the government puts its imprimatur on a particular religion it conveys a message of exclusion to all those who do not adhere to the favored beliefs. A government cannot be premised on the belief that all persons are created equal when it asserts that God prefers some.”**

And even George Washington said that "this country is in no way founded on the Christian religion." Read the Constitution, it says NOTHING about God, Jesus, or Christianity ANYWHERE in the entire document. You'd think BillO the clown would know that with his degree in history.

But he's probably still pi$$ed that his old lady used to date Flava Flav so its warped his mind...lol

Exactly!! Well said.

But the thing is, Bill and his colleagues know that the vast majority of their viewers and listeners would never bother to thoroughly read the Constitution or the Declatation of Independence ( I believe there is one reference to a "creator" in the latter) so they say whatever they want. Performers, and that is what they are, do not rely on the truth to get their ratings up.

At about the time of the start of the Iraq invasion I attended a public talk entitled "Conflicts and the part played by religion in them" or something like that. The panel of speakers included the Catholic Archbishop, a Muslim scholar (not a priest), a Buddhist monk and a person from the Bahaii faith. These men all spent the first 15 min utes of their alloted time telling the audience of the peace and understanding that was the core of their religions, and quoted from their holy books with gay abandon. They then opened up for questions. I had no hesitation in putting to them the first question, and managed to drag in most wars since the Crusades, which was the start of a feeding frenzy from the audience (of mostly University students, academics and other assorted rabble). It continues to amaze me that these "holy" men and scholars are so ignorant of the way in which they are viewed by anyone who is not brainwashed.

Some people talk religion and some people live religion.
Some people are very churchy and preachy and spout religious things out of the same mouth with which they besmirch, insult, slander, and lie.
Some people do not go to church but use care in how they express opposing views with another.
Some people go through the motions of demonstrating religion. Some people do not feel the need to prove their religiosity, prefering to deal directly with the Almighty or Whoever is their Higher Power.
Some people are proud and boastful and judgemental and some are humble, quiet, and ask to be kept that way in their prayers.

I had two immediate thoughts:

First, maybe this President understands the founding fathers call for separation of church and state.

Second, It's not what you say about religion that makes you religious.. it's how you live your life. Now let's compare President Obama with those so-called religious leaders on the right..... Sanford, Ensign, etc.

Bill you aren't even close here.....

Nor do I recall President Obama ever having called for the murder of a doctor just because he was conducting a lawful medical procedure with which I disagreed.

The sad thing is people watch Fox and believe what they hear............. Obama is not without religion.
The Obama's are without a church. What is the big deal If you must go to church then you should go where
you feel comfortable

I'm an Atheist who believes life begins at first breath and not one second before. I doubt President Obama would feel in any way similar, but his "lack of religion" makes me even prouder he's our president.

his ilk feed off of the entrenched ignorance of a large population who ignore the facts and trust only what others spoon feed them.

You should stop quoting from the demo.c.r.ap handbook. It's very tiring.

O'Reilly is convinced that Obama, in not promoting religion, is promoting secularism. Many on the other side of the issue feel that Obama, to the extent that he does, says, or thinks anything religious, is violating church/state separation.

What we have are two extreme, and equally incorrect, views. Separation of church and state requires that our government remain neutral on matters of religion. The First Amendment is written strictly in terms of what the govt. is not allowed to do--as in, not interfere with the freedom to worship.

Extremists on both sides like to make the issue one of secularism vs. religion. Extremists always frame things in absolute, either/or fashion. Luckily for us, our founders were far more sophisticated than that.

Bile O'Really has embraced religion; no, not Scientology, he's one of the 1st English speaking disciples of Santierra. The lore of Santierra has been translated into English. Bile has put money into a chain of herb shops, aka Botanicas to Spanish speaking Santierros. He got a great deal on plastic Blessed Virginsm Jesuses & other RC saints from China. O'Really's herb shops will sell them as Santierra fetishes, idols or whatever.
Pres Obama remains a Protestant.
O'Really has a RC background. Many traditional RCs don't acknowledge any Protestant sects as being religions. One wonders what the nuns who taught O'Really would think of Santierra, even in English.

O'Reilly equates religion with spirituality. Error.
Saying you're a good Christian, believe in God, and love Jesus doesn't count for much. It's how you live your life. Bill, I don't think you're doing so well.

Pretty much all rightwing evangelical Christians arrogantly equate their particular brand of Christianity with superior morality when they nearly always demonstrate the opposite to be the case. I have infinitely more time and regard for the more moderate, progressive and seemingly humble type Christian who tries to be the best person THEY can be using the (more accurate IMHO) Christian philosophy of "prepare and prevent instead of repair and repent". They're much more fun to have drinks with and you can have really cool, thought provoking conversations with them too..!!

What could be more essential to a recitation of the Beatitudes (see Matthew 5) than a squadron or two of F-22s screaming overhead to remind the faithful that the meek shall inherit the Earth and the peacemakers shall be called the Children of God. What nerve cutting these overflights out for budgetary reasons. No doubt the money saved will be squandered on food stamps or the poor in spirit or some other wasteful cause. What nerve indeed.

I'll try this post one more time, not because it's important, but I don't see why it's been rejected twice.

But God really likes us, so has given us great military might. Seeing F-22s screaming overhead reminds us that God wants us to defeat our (and His) enemies, who He doesn't like very much.

Even if you thought that Judeo-Christian values are a wonderful thing, which I don't, it would still be an utterly ridiculous, propagandist statement. Saying that the US became the strongest nation on earth because of our Christian values is like saying that the US became the strongest nation on earth because of our anthem.

I feel sorry for your views. I'm sure it was atheism that put America at the front of the worlds power, influence, and leadership. There is zero foundation for your argument.

Of course it had nothing to do with the trillions of $$ America spends on weaponry.
