UPI:

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said Thursday he would invoke privilege if asked about advice he gave to Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., on handling an extramarital affair.

Coburn said he was talking to Ensign about his tryst with a former staffer in his capacities as a doctor and a man of the cloth, Roll Call reported.

Nothing but with "organized religion" and the AMA, it has everything to do with gaining power and satisfying greed and prohibited desires.

Coburn seems to be very busy "counselling" these wayward gop members. When does he have time to do the job he was elected to? He should resign, go into full time counselling. There seems to be plenty of job opportunities in that field, just at that house alone!

I live in Tulsa. The Tulsa World continually buries these types of stories about our senators (Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum). This one regarding OB-GYN Coburn's privileged treatment of Ensign (a man) appears on page A8.

Living here is like bleeding to death from 10,000 needle pricks.

Wake up then , find like minded people in your community and begin to resist what your biased radio stations and your "christian" leaders are selling out there in the "real America'

Why would you assume that I'm not politically active? Perhaps my local Democratic party's efforts to combat the religious right's insidious political influence in this state makes the major newspaper's Inhofe/Coburn complicity all the more infuriating.

If you're a progressive living in a blue (or even purple) state, good for you. I live in a state where racism is expected and ignorance is willful. I live in a state where sporting an Obama button in public results in ongoing "white power" phone calls late at night to my unlisted land line.

Step off, amigo.

If he is not a priest, then he cannot claim priveledge. This is not national securiy, but rather about a hypocrite that screms one thing about family values while winking!

"Our goal is singular—and that is to hope that we can assist them in better understandings of the teachings of Christ, and applying it to their jobs," said Richard Carver, a member of the Fellowship's board of directors who served as an assistant secretary of the Air Force during the Reagan administration

Perhaps they should expand their goal and assist "them" in applying the teachings of Christ to their private lives - because they sure don't seem to have any problems trying to push their religion down our throats in their profeesional lives as politicans.

That might explain Sanford's reference to himself as "King David."

He's Ensign's preacher or physician? That privilege?

Hmmm. And you are licensed as a professional counselor where? Sounds like non-professional, personal advice to me. Is that privileged?

A privilege belongs to the patient, not the doctor. Generally, only a patient may waive the privilege. A patient's written consent is needed before a doctor can release any information about the patient.

So, Coburn is an OB/GYNish, deacony, politician? Sounds like a jack of all trades and master of none.

The rationale behind the rule is that a level of trust must exist between a physician and the patient so that the physician can properly treat the patient. If the patient were fearful of telling the truth to the physician because he or she believed the physician would report such behavior to the authorities, the treatment process could be rendered far more difficult, or the physician could make an incorrect diagnosis.

(granted the source is Wikipedia, but it does seem to present some logic - more than Coburn is presenting)
