UPI:

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said Thursday he would invoke privilege if asked about advice he gave to Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., on handling an extramarital affair.

Coburn said he was talking to Ensign about his tryst with a former staffer in his capacities as a doctor and a man of the cloth, Roll Call reported.

Good Morning Spicegirl and Nick. I watched Rachel last night and couldn't believe what I was hearing about this CStreet house. A secret Christian Fellowship that Sanders, Ensign, Coburn, and who ever else is involved in?

It is a "cult" and it should be splashed across every headline on every paper. I have a feeling the book "The Family" is going to be a big seller in the next few weeks.

What's really scary is that he said he's "counseled others." That in my opinion raises a lot of red flags. Is he the guy you go to when you're having an affair?

I think we should be doing more investigating into the C Street Family. There's a connection here with these republican fundamentalist Christians and unwillingness to own up to their sins. Rachel Maddow did a great segment on this and interviewed the guy who wrote The Family. This is pretty creepy stuff, and it seems to be infiltrating our govt, at least from the GOP side.

They've been in our government for more than fifty years.

First of all he abetted a Bribe and there is no privilege. Second the church he claimes to be a Decon in is located on C street in DC and they believe that you can do anything even commit Rape and Murder and you are still held in esteem because (GET THIS) you hold your position in life becaus GOD deemed it. These AH'S are dangerious. Gov. Stanford was amember of this group along with Senator Engsin and Senator DEM WIT from SC.

Most of the Senators believe that they are the privileged and know better than their constituents. The unveiling of these C street politicians and their egomaniac beliefs illustrate a cult-like corruption in DC (especially from those old Bushies) that should be abolished by the American people.

Coburn is calling himself an Ordained Deacon; he is really fooling himself because he sure isn't fooling GOD!

By the way Coburn; many have been convicted without testifying so you can plea-the-fifth all you want!

Isn't that convenient? Not to worry, Senator. Thanks to Rachel Maddow, many more of us are now familiar with the C St. House, and the Family. We'll be looking into it further. You have my word.

If he isn't a lawyer then he has no privilege to invoke.

He's a "deacon" and a gynecologist. He will not be censured, but his "Family" at the C St. House in Wash. D.C. will be getting a lot more unwanted attention, I can tell you.

The fact that he is a gynecologist doesn't give him any privilege unless he is Ensign's gynecologist. Last I understood Ensign doesn't have a need for one. As far as being a deacon that doesn't give him any privilege unless he is deacon of his church. As far as I know they only live in the same place.

And some people say that what politicans do in their private lives shouldn't matter.

Sounds to me as though Coburn was pushing for a bribe in return for silence.

Maybe it isn't illegal but it is unethical.

More and more these people are exposed. They preach religion and morality to the rest of us and it doesn't apply to them.

Bribes are illegal every time. Talking about a bribe is called conspiracy or conspiring to commit a crime. Also illegal.

He's an OB/GYN (which freaks me out enough) but what kind of doctor/patient privilege exists between Ensign and Coburn? Weird.

And being a deacon in Oklahoma doesn't exactly qualify as a man of the cloth does it?

This story is just bizarre.

Dr. Coburn, Sounds like an awfully f.l.i.m.s.y defense. Most men do not have obstetricians. Has he ever performed any medical services for Ensign? Could he put a band.aid on his knee and say "There, I've done medical work for you, now no one can ever ask me anything about you."

How far does doctor-patient confidentiality go? Even if he did perform some medical services for him, the vast majority of their interaction would be in a non-medical capacity. Is one Senator consulting another Senator about a personal scandal covered by doctor-patient confidentiality just because one of them is a doctor? How would you then separate any interaction between them?
