Two-thirds of the country lives in large metropolitan areas, home to the nation's worst traffic jams and some of its oldest roads and bridges. But cities and their surrounding regions are getting far less than two-thirds of federal transportation stimulus money.

Can we stop calling this a stimulus bill?

"US slips, China soars in Fortune magazine ranking..."
--Drudge Headline.

Should be "Us slips, China soars, Obama cheers..." Everything he has done has been to hinder the American economy through hampering its driving engines, companies that make products and sell services and HIRE PEOPLE, and through weakening the USA in its international relations with both friends and enemies.

Still babbling I see....

Your "free market" principles are what got us here. We were in trouble before Obama even got the nomination!

What is it about the "party of personal responsibility" that makes them blame everyone else?

Economy is in shambles - it is the fault of the poor and Obama!
SP resigns - Its because that mean MSM keeps picking on her
Iraq debacle - Its because the Democrats won't let us win

Seriously, you whine more than a kid with a skinned knee...

Well you know he isn't really an American citizen, and I hear he is a communist muslim, and well you know how tight the communists and muslims are when it comes to hating freedom.

In wonderful seattle, the city and county fathers have been talking for 10 years about a new floating bridge to replace on about to float away, and for six about a double-decker freeway that could collapse in the next earthquake.

they still can't agree on a plan to replace either. between the anti-tax conservatives, the no-road enviros and the NIMBYs who want nothing, nothing gets done.

if other big cities are run this way, it's no wonder they don't get funding; they're hardly shovel ready. that's not obama's fault.

look no further than Boston and San Francisco to see how badly projects are run by the government . . .

Big Dig original budget? $ 2.6 Billion - final cost? $ 22 Billion !

New Bay Bridge budget? $ 5.4 Billion - final cost? check back in 5 years . . .

Can't wait to see what happens when government start running your health care - - -

Way to go, Obama. A refreshing change. Maybe we can build a few bridges to unpopulated islands, build a lab complex to study the pleasant scent of pigs, pave a few acres of empty farmland . . . you know . . . things like that.

Shocking! Does this mean that the government and politicians aren't very good at allocating capital and making investment decisions? I find that to be a shattering conclusion.

The states are making their own decisions. State legislatures are ignoring urban centers as always as the tax base for the state assemblies is from the suburbs.

Stimulus is a joke of a concept; it doesn't end up with real economic growth in the long

term. Even the New Deal failed to increase private investment. It wasn't until 1941 that

domestic private investment reached 1929 levels. The fact that the first stimulus has failed

to stop the bleeding yet isn't surprising. Our government deficit for the year which is over

20% of GDP (when the omnibus bill, first stimulus, bailouts, and on-budget deficit are

summed) is unsustainable and something's gotta give, whether it be the lenders or the

interest rates.

And what about the 2 stimulus packages that W passed in his time in the WH?

What about him bailing out the airline industry?

What about him nationalizing airline security?

.... Thats what I thought...

States are making the decisions as to where the transportation money is going within their own states.
