El Paso Times:

EL PASO -- Two gay men kissed at a Chico's Tacos restaurant, prompting guards to eject them and a police officer to endorse their ouster.

Civil-rights lawyers say the security staff was out of line. Police, though, contend that a business such as a restaurant can refuse service to anybody, any time.

"Disturbing the peace" trumps any so-called state or city ordinance. Two guys kissing in a public restaurant certainly qualifies, because it is disturbing. Don't believe me? Ask any cop, any state, anywhere.

As much fun as this all was, meeting secret agent man and Father Merrin, I'm off to have a big gay date now. There's going to be kissing and holding hands, in public. Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough for you 'phobes, my boyfriend is black too.

Fine! I'll leave the bad stuff out.

I mean, case in point. Thugs and cops try to bring the nation back to a Jim Crow footing with rampant abuse and all you can think about is, 'Oh, my 'disagreeing with their lifestyle' martyrs me. They say somehow I'm not a *wholly good person for oppressing them.* ' My 'disagreeing' has me all 'fagged out.'

Boo F'n hoo, sir.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if a minority *visibly existing* and *having equal protection under the law* is the same thing to you as 'imposing their lifestyle on everyone,' actually, *you're* the one being 'overly dramatic.'

Mention of a kiss turns into a 'slobbering display.'

I think you're the one who needs to dry up. And grow up.

As a proud Gay man, I have no problem with public-displays-of-affection by either homosexuals or heterosexuals. I think that some people need to grow-up and develop a sense of sexual security within themselves. A simple kiss doesn't harm anyone and only demonstrates two universal traits in all humans---the need for affection and the desire to express it.

This has been interesting. I am off to dinner with my partner and I plan on kissing him when I see him in the middle of the restaurant. As we normally do in a nice restaurant with a great, diverse clientle that won't bat an eye.

To the haters... thanks for reminding us that the battle is far from over and we must continue to stand up for the rights of everyone and speak out against discrimination in any form at any time. The world will be a much better place when people accept the grand diversity of the universe and not teach hate and intolerance to the next generations.

Live and love honestly!

Seriously, people need to toughen up or something. It's particularly bad that the conservatives on this thread are laying all their subconscious fears way open here and are fundamentally turning this thread into a fait accompli that illustrates how emotionally fragile and lacking in willpower the breed are. They run around in a hysterical tizzy, expecting everyone else to kow-tow to and tiptoe around their emotional and psychological issues rather than doing what a rational, adult, civilized human being would do:

Cope.

The immature position in this debate is the one that states that they get all upset over what two other people do and state support for stopping them in a legally biased, unfair manner that does not punish others for the same act. They scour their surroundings of temptation and blame the two guys kissing when the reality is that the problem lays in their response and their inability to look away and put it out of their mind. Most of us learn how to do that, but apparently in the Bible Belt they are too weak to do this.

The rest of us know how to put things out of our mind that disturb us, such as a sign that says, "God Hates F*gs" in the hands of a pinch-faced zealot. Time for the rest of you to join the ranks of the adults and learn how to cope with your problems, rather than punishing everyone else because you're too irresponsible to cope.

I agree. This gay-panic argument espoused by the likes of CaliforniaLove and other bigoted posters on this site is emblematic of the "Me-First" mentality which has brought this country to it's knees. I really think they need to obsess on what's truly important and just let people live their lives.

I also think it's worth noting that the gay panic types tend to think everyone is some sort of conformist sheep that will go along with homosexuality because "it is a choice" and it's "cool." Basically, on the basis of the flawed fundamental assumption that homosexuality isn't biologically hardwired, they get it all wrong.

But even beyond that, these people are also in 'follower' religions or 'follower' societies where they pay a lot of attention to what their leaders say. Even if they are secular and listening to Limbaugh, they are used to taking their marching orders from somewhere, and don't seem to be able to realize that there are a lot of people out there, and a lot of them are liberals, who don't wait around for someone to tell them what to think before they think.

See, they're under the assumption that the Gay Obama will someday come into power and command us all to be gay. Then, because they make the mistaken assumption that we all think as they do, they figure that we'll all obey, like we're the borg or something. And America will go all gay or something.

It's a scary sort of subconscious paranoia that I doubt they've thought about, because introspection is scary to that breed. They react to things, they don't think about them.

I went into a bar in Alaska several years ago with a couple of friends driving back from fishing. It ended up being a biker bar and a man and woman were having sex on a table with a bunch of guys forming a circle around them cheering. If I was turned off by this, does that make me a bigot regarding people who ride motorcycles? If they were asked to leave, would that be biker discrimination? Where do you draw the line? Why isn't it ok to have a policy against an act that is often viewed as part of making love?

Young children don't care. They see people in love when a straight couple kisses or a gay couple kisses.

It's their elderly bigoted parents who care. I'm sure said parents still cover their brats' eyes every time an interracial couple walks down the street. If they're not bothered by the interracial thing, then eventually they'll get used to the sight of gay couples too.

Gay's have just as much of an equal right to expression as straight do.

Be proud homos! Every time you see a straight couple kiss in public, kiss your same-sex partner!
