EUCLID, Ohio — An Ohio woman who found a fawn in her flower garden has been accused of beating it to death with a shovel. Dorothy Richardson, 75, was charged in a warrant with animal cruelty at her Euclid home near the Cleveland Metroparks Euclid Creek Reservation, a wooded park where deer, foxes and other wildlife roam.

Animal control officer Ann Mills requested the warrant. She said "everybody's very upset" about the fawn's June 15 death.

Richardson hasn't appeared in court. She told Cleveland's WKYC-TV she was afraid of the fawn and used a shovel to try to make it move. She said after it died she put it in a box and took it to the curb on trash day.

Euclid's cruelty to animals charge is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Some animals just don't deserve to live. And by 'animals', I mean 'people'

She was afraid. Plus we don't know what she had to do to keep that yard together after her husband died. She said that with a great sense of pride. She said that she saw the deers eyes when they made contact with hers. She began talking to the deer asking him who was gonna jump first. When her fear told her that this deer was going to jump her. It may have been a fawn, but in her fear, the deer could harm her. So she tapped it .... just like that "tap" and that was the end of Bambi.

No different than snapping the neck of a mouse in a trap. It's just a slightly larger rodent.

Or your neck. Just a larger rodent still.

Two things,jane.

1. It is **FAR** different to a snapping a mouse's neck. You'd have to stove the creatures head in to kill it with a shovel. Essentially she bashed its head in. Literally.

2. A deer is NOT a rodent.

No child left behind.

Indeed

SeeJaneRunning, I wish you were a rodent. Second thought, a rodent is above you.

OK. I watched the YouTube video. A neighbor says she told him she beat the fawn to death and wanted to put it out as an example to the others.

Dorothy's little flower garden has to GO.

Big freakin' deal. One less vermin deer in the world... get over it. When about 80% of the extant deer population has been removed, there will still be too many. Pay her a bounty already.

Don't put her in jail.
Give her the same punishment which she used on the fawn.

Too bad the fawn's mother didn't beat the old lady to death. Oh...that wouldn't happen, would it?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:27 PM on 07/09/2009

Yes, it could (not with a shovel, though, I don't think). A doe is usually very protective of her fawn and will attack even dogs. I was in a sticky situation with a doe in Idaho last week and got out of her territory because I knew she was guarding fawns--she growled at me and kept making wide circles around me.

Euclid's a really bad neighborhood.

Doesn't help that nutty mcsenior lives there.

I live in Euclid, Ohio. I can assure you that it is not "a bad neighborhood." In fact, it's not a neighborhood at all. It's a city on the east side of Cleveland. I don't understand your "nutty mcsenior lives there" comment and won't even attempt a reply. I am sickened by what this woman did and hope that a high price is exacted for it. In the meantime, however, I would suggest that you don't write comments about things of which you are ignorant.
