Russian Designers Unimpressed By Michelle Obama

Even the Russian fashion industry isn't that wowed by the First Lady. "Her clothes are modest and neutral," was designer Denis Simachev's muted reaction.

Name one so call famous Russian designer outside of Russia. Right, you cannot name one. Go FLOTUS Michelle moving on to the next country Russia time has come and gone with the wind!
Anyone remember the Wendy's commercial from the 80s with the Russian fashion show?
Pure comedy.
Russian fashion critique? Pleeeeeeeeeeeese. No Russian will EVER tell an American woman how to dress. Period
who give a $2 F**k what the Russins think. Our First Lady is better looking and smarter than theirs.
I totally agree with ya! Great compliment, however, Russia, really, really; we could care less what you Russian's think. I love the way President Obama put Putin in his place with his late half baked dinner invitation! No thanks Putin, I having dinner with my best girls tonight! You see I'm the President of the USA and these things are handled by my staff well in advance for national security reason and a sign of good grace, great style, taste, sophistication, and etiquette.
You see the Obama family NEVER accept second hand anything - especially not second handed invitations from has beens!
Good-bye and good luck making things happen without me Putin! You do know the other guys is in charge NOW - they are just tolerating you!
So what! I don't care about what Russian designers think of my first lady. I like my first lady and I like her style as an American and that's all that counts.
All politics aside, glamorous, stylish or beautiful she is not. Americans need the myth for all sorts of reasons and that's fine, but Russians do not.
Well, that's true, but I think the Russian commentators are not considering cultural differences between the two countries.
In the winter in Hawaii, bright floral prints are loved and worn, as they are the rest of the year.
In Vermont in the winter, you don't see many bright floral prints, but more deeper, neutral colors.
Different cultures, different apparel standards.
I disagree. IMHO the typical "American" standard for what is "glamorous, stylish, or beautiful" has changed...thank God! I believe that you are applying a standard that appeals to white America and therefore infer that all Americans (irrespective of race or ethnicity) agree with that standard of beauty. And, that is patently false, we don't all agree about what constitutes glamor, beauty, or style. Move over...a new day has arrived!
on the contrary! michelle has on days when she is all that (glamorous, stylish or beautiful) and her off days when it doesnt work.
poetry slam? gorgeous!
governors ball? a knockout!
time honors? beautiful!
+++++++++++++
2nd england visit?
hell no!
belts? to many!
oh well...
it's all good! she is better off not letting the "fashion icon" tag become what she will be known for. she is not trying to be jackie kennedy, a society debutante who always wear couture. when another white, rich senator's or governors wife get back in the white house, you can go back to drooling over your keyboard. now YOU being a repcon, buried deep in the pits in the heritage foundation or whatever hole you are coming from, cant come to terms with a black democrat is in the white house and is committed to attacking the first family on every ave.
modest and nuetral is perfectly fine, looking at her clothing, i think she was trying to be much more than that.
If the charge of racism is made against those who do not like Michelle Obama's style,
then there really can be no discussion of Michelle Obama and Style.
If you are saying that Michelle Obama has a Black American Style then say it. But do not say those who do not like her style are racist.
If MO has a distinct style that is Black, then it may be that those who are not familiar with this distinctly Black style cannot appreciate it.
Those, myself included, who feel MO has an incoherent style may not understand that this incoherent style is actually a style in the Black world. This does not make us racists. All discussion comes to a halt when smears of racism are inserted into the discussion.
The Obamas are not celebrities. They are political figures. And as such are open to all kinds of evaluation, discussion and criticism.
This comment says a lot more about you than about Michelle. You're one of those nasty commenters who take every opportunity to insult her because you can't stand her for whatever reason. One you stop letting your personal resentments own you, then maybe you can be taken seriously. Until then...NEXT!!
I'm sorry did I miss the most famous Russian designer? Is there an international Russian design presence? Omigosh, I must be losing it, I am totally unaware of any international design statement from Russia since the peasant look of the Sixties!
Are they serious about their first lady of frump?
PUH--LEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Otherwise, no comment.
People need to stop raving, It IS what they think, It ISN'T an agenda, maybe they really are NOT impressed with her looks. And who says they can't just say so?
And we can disagree with them just as well. If you have no problem with them expressing themselves, then you should have no difficulty in hearing the other side expressed. Unless you're just a resentful ball of bitterness who hates Michelle.
hey russia,,,,,,,,,here's a little something you might want to remember, 'less is more'.
And there is NO defense for you whatsoever.
There is no mistake about it. The First Lady is playing her style right. We're in the midst of a horrific economy...Americans should not be reminded daily of what we don't have.
With all the photos taken of Michelle Obama, if she were wearing lavish designer rags....There are those numb skulls that would skip paying the mortgage to buy similar rags....For show.
I believe the Obamas are aware of that fact...That's why she's toned down. Let's be real. It's time to move on from suicidal materialism.
Besides, the Russian in-your-face style would be gauche.
well said, to become a "fashion icon" in the regular sense in this economy would be nuts. she mixes inexpensive with upper middle class expensive stuff and that sets a good tone. remember, cindy mccain's outfit for the convention was worth over 300,000 dollars!
It is too bad that Russian people do not like us; maybe they are SUPPOSED to not like us but really do.
You are on to something. I think that Putin, put in, his two cents worth of fashion commentary and sent a gov't edict out that no statements should be complimentary to our FLOTUS.
Yessssss! A conspiracy!!!!!!
You know you have arrived, when you DON'T IMPRESS THE RUSSIANS.
They haven't gotten that far since they are working their way down.
They are busy shaving unibrow and mustache.
You may find this funny that Vladimir resigned 1 year 6 months after or when I was late delivering his outfit I promised to sew for him.
Those blasted belts as you call them, are where they are supposed to be. It's too bad you aren't up on the latest fashions. Just look at the spring, summer, and fall lines of the designers and you will see.
Unfortunately, you are correct--they don't ride up, that is where she wants them to be.
While it may be "fashionable" for thin models, it is not flattering to MO, and produces a most unattractive look.
I think Jennifer Anniston looks great in a bikini, but if I wore the same bikini I would not look great. That is why I wouldn't wear it.
Just because something is fashionable doesn't mean a woman should wear it. No matter how fashionable an outfit is, if it is unattractive on the woman wearing it, it's not fashionable for her.
It seems Michelle O. simply lacks that sequined, silicone implanted, super-tight and slutty, blue eye-shadowed mail-order bride look that is so prized by the sexy ladies of Eastern Europe.
Well, the Royal Blue contacts do come from England. I wear them. They are Super Blue. Even my mailman loved my eyes.
Or, rather, he loved your contacts.
By any chance, did your great grandmother design clothes for the Royals?
Russian mail-order-brides won't leave Russia without vaginal rejuvenation surgery.
Ack! That was terrible.
Would you like the Russians to claim that all American ladies "prize" the look of a B-girls in Las Vegas?
Not all Russian women are b-girls looking to get married to get the heck out of Russia. I think you do a terrible disservice to them by denegrating them all just because it's the only thing you can think of to defend MO's often non-style.
And you do a disservice to MO 24/7. Physician, heal thyself.
