Boston Zoo Closing

The Boston Globe:

The Franklin Park Zoo, an inner-city Boston institution that has drawn generations of city and suburban families, may be forced to close its doors and possibly euthanize some of its animals as a result of the deep budget cuts imposed by Governor Deval Patrick, zoo officials said today.

A fraction of the money spent as the result of cost overruns for the "Big Dig" construction project would endow the Boston Zoo in perpetuity.

Massachusetts and Boston need more competent, less corrupt government.

Ok, California is cash strapped and I just got my pay cut 14.2% with a threat of another 5% cut on the horizon, but at least the Governator hasn't caused our zoos to start murdering the animals - yet.

Hum... have to admit, wit the pay cut I am feeling a bit like a hippo that took a dart to the bum meself though...

Better not, they can send them to sancturaries or other zoos, some can be pets. They took them in, it's their job to find them homes.

Maybe we can eat them, like in that Marlon Brando movie?

I agree with other posters regarding moving the animals to other facilities. Why put them down when there are other places that could take them in? Now THAT is barbaric.

Why don't we euthanize the REAL wild, rabid animals that are threatening our nation--i.e., the ones that helped tank our economy?

I mean, of course, the fraudsters on Wall Street, subprime lenders, ratings agencies, and the outsourcing and offshoring execs.

Rather than euthanize animals because of human stupidity, why not put these animals in reputable sanctuaries and let them live out their days?

I completely agree!

I know zoo's are supposed to be educational, but all I see is parents allowing their kids to run completely wild and taunt the animals.

Maybe the Boston zoo should contact the Wild animal park here in CA or the San Diego zoo to take some of the animals before going to the extreme.

I know what you mean. The arts and parks are just useless. Shut all. the baseball fields down and close all the swimming pools. If you can't afford to build your own the country should not supply you with one. That is my new motto....(rolling my eyes)

Your suggestion has been forwarded to the Social Security Administration, and the taxpayers thank you, in advance, for your selfless gesture.
