David Brooks: A Republican Senator 'Had His Hand On My Inner Thigh' For A 'Whole' Dinner Party (VIDEO)

What's Your Reaction?

Think Progress flags David Brooks telling a fantastic anecdote that supports his recent New York Times column lamenting the loss of dignity in America. Apparently, Brooks was at a dinner party and had the misfortune to sit next to a Republican senator who "had his hand on my inner thigh the whole time. I was like, ehh, get me out of here."

Co-host John Harwood exclaims "what?" while Norah O'Donnell lets loose her trademark guffaw. Sadly, Brooks refuses to identify the touchy-feely senator.

I came to the conclusion all republicans are closet cases a long time ago. At this popnt, James Dobson could get caught wearing a dress with a male hooker and it wouldn't phase me.

I hate to be a spelling stickler, but that would be "faze". Different from "phase".

Old news, it already happened. And, he shares the same first sexual experience (look it up, bookworm) that Jerry Falwell did.

This is a hilarious story.
Why is it that we never hear anything about the Republican politicians except their latest scandal? Do they spend all of their time trying to get sex?

Have you factored in the political orientation of the websites you receive your news from?

No, they spend some of their time opposing anything Barack Obama tries to do to untangle the mess Bush left.

This plays into the umbrella anti-gay theme of the Republicans. Brooks is suggesting that any homosexual is incapable of behaving in public, and instead will stick their hands into the crotches of any men who are near them. I don't know if Brooks' story is true or not but if it is, he certainly should have turned to the offender and told him to get his hand off of Brooks' leg.

Let me put it this way: if the groper was male, and Brooks was female, this would be a tee-hee story, a "what-a-guy" story about the groper, a "Congressional romeo" type of tale. But instead, what we have is a continuation of the Republican theory that anyone who is homosexual is also sexually aggressive and will assault other men, at every opportunity, no matter the possible sanctions.

This not only plays well into the desire of politicians to continue to use gays as a scapegoat and fundraising device, but also plays into the elitest white heterosexual male theory of the world which requires that they run everything, and everyone else be excluded. After all, you can't let the gays in or they'll run wild.

The truth is that sexual assault in this country is primarily done by heterosexual males against females, and the anti-gay phobia of white men is nonsense.

David Brooks may think he's some hot little thing, but to me he's just a propagandist for the right-wing.

Wow. You and I read different stories, or inhabit different universes.

Most folks don't make fun of the "wide stance Republicans" because they're g@y, but rather because there is a certain type of smug, self-righteous, hypocritical man who shouts "family values!" at the top of his lungs while getting down and dirty with any girl, boy, man or livestock he can get his hands on.
The GOP excels at this particular dysfunction, obviously.

No, once the Republican senator groped him, it became a news story.

The slurs against Mr. Brooks are a typical Republican red hearring.

It's only the closet cases in the GOP that are so desperate to get laid. If they weren't scaried of the fundies, they'd just go to a bar or dial up Jeff Gannon...

By the way: looking into Mr. Brooks' soul through his eyes as he speaks about this reveals two things. 1. He was aroused during the incident. 2. He is actually bragging about his prowess when talking about this more than he is criticizing the people who he's calling freaks for molesting him in public for over an hour as he sits there, supposedly helpless to stop it, mercy me.

It is David Brooks' responsibility as a journalist to expose the creep currently representing the people who voted him into public office. Using a position of power to curry sexual favor was reprehensible enough when Bill Clinton did it, so why Brooks is withholding this information about the sexual assault which took place against him is beyond excuse.

And this, by the way, is exactly why Joe Lieberman now sides exclusively with Republicans on every issue which matters: Lindsay Graham is the one living human who makes Senator Joe feel desirable and wanted.

What type of grown man lets another grown man keep his hand on his inner thigh for the entire dinner if he did not like it.

If Brooks did not like it, he could have leaned over and said, "take your hand off me." Or he could have squeezed the crap out of the hand. By leaving the hand there, he was complicit and participatory in whatever was going on.

Brooksie is kinda cute - for a Republican - especially when you compare him to Republicans like Cheney and Rove. They make David look absolutely adorable.

Did Brooks awake the next morning with an ache in his head and a beard in his ear that tickled and said "Madiera, m'dear?"
