David Brooks: A Republican Senator 'Had His Hand On My Inner Thigh' For A 'Whole' Dinner Party (VIDEO)

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Think Progress flags David Brooks telling a fantastic anecdote that supports his recent New York Times column lamenting the loss of dignity in America. Apparently, Brooks was at a dinner party and had the misfortune to sit next to a Republican senator who "had his hand on my inner thigh the whole time. I was like, ehh, get me out of here."

Co-host John Harwood exclaims "what?" while Norah O'Donnell lets loose her trademark guffaw. Sadly, Brooks refuses to identify the touchy-feely senator.

It is very difficult for me to accept how low the Republican Party has really descended. Rather than just one or two miscreants, it is now apparent that the GOP is overwhelmingly populated by homosexual homophobes, holier-than-thou misogynists, and demented dimwits. This is definitely not the Republican Party of my youth.

I agree...it isn't the party I supported for half a century either..that is why we left. You forgot to mention the prejuduces, bigotry and hypocrisy of it all....the GOP wrapes itself in the flag carring the cross of Christ, signing baptist hymns while the attack the character ot anyone who isn't a repubplican...we are sick and disgusted with the entire organization!

"Sadly, Brooks refuses to identify the touchy-feely senator."

Just ask someone who attended the dinner party who was seated next to Brooks.

I read this farce of an article three times and I still fail to see the part where Brooks withdraws in utter disgust after three seconds. Mr. Brooks was sporting major wood.

No. It became a story that Mr. Brooks was covering, so he did not remove the offending hand. Bigtime red herring here from our local GOP friends. Hi guys!

The identity of this senator WILL come out.

The "whole" dinner party?

Why didn't Brooks just take the anonymous hand and repatriate it with its owner at the start of the dinner?

Sheesh. Talk about unspoken consent.

This is like the Dubya Years, the submissive media and the Republican Administration, played out in a little anecdote. Don't ask, but do tell. To no effect.

CNN jpurnalist Wolf Blitzer is a constant dinner guest at the Cheney household...not uncommon for the media and poiliticans to fine together...however, this was a Dinner Banquet....not a one on one dinner

Can we just recognize that this is yet another republican fairy tale.

No fairy tale, just another fraud being outed, sort of.

That he submissively acquiesced to the good Senator says volumes about Brooks.

I'd fire him.

Oh, come on. "The whole time" is obviously hyperbole. We don't know the details.

I like David Brooks; he's one of the few Republicans I respect--wish there were more like him. I enjoyed his column about dignity, too. But I'm glad he wasn't too dignified in this interview!

Could it have been a few years ago when Bob Dole was still in the Senate? We all know that Bob doesn't have total control and feeling in that hand and maybe he thought he was just still holding onto that pen.

Why did Mr. Brooks allow this frisky Republican Senator to keep his snakey hand on his inner thigh for the entire length of time? Why didn't Mr. Brooks politely tell this hypocritical Repub to kindly remove his havd because it is inappropriate? Maybe Mr. Brooks was OK with it?
