They been running those ads , and ads against health reform, here in Arkansas , trying to get conservatives to flood our 'bluedog' reps with calls. They are full of l ies and distortions. Conservatives believe that shlt, though.

Playing to people's fears always occur when justice is around the corner. Advertisements like this must be dealt with along the path. The forces of injustice are running scared. EFCA will prevail.

Opponents of the EFCA will come up with the most ridiculous lies to prevent it from passing. Nobody should believe any opponents of the EFCA.

Right... because organized labor and organized crime don't have any historical links...

half a century ago a few unions were involved with organized crime

but of course that gives EFCA opponents the right to smear ALL current modern day unions with that nonsense...

Corporate links with organized crime are WAY more likely. More to the point if the owners and rulers of this country hadn't resorted to violence to break unions there would be NO link to organized crime. Even more to the point how many names do you post under here?

Not a great ad, but the fact that the unions want to force the ad off the air....is...well...a bit like looking over someone's shoulder when they vote.

So pointing out lies in advertising is the same as "a bit like looking over someone's shoulder when they vote."? Where do you vote?

Rather than demand a station not run an ad....run their own ad. One is trying to force a station to verify everything in any ad that they are paid to run...the other is free speech.

Why do union members vandalize the vehicles of non-union members and temporary workers who replace them when they go on strike?

I was involved in a strike and we caught the company foremen doing things (starting fires, hung a noose) and they tried real hard to blame it on us! Only thing they had their chains and padlock on and this happened inside so we put our chain and padlock on to keep them inside!

Corporate American must be coming completely off the spool, what with pending health care reform and EFCA.

You need to do some homework.

1. You're right about EFCA. Unions definitely cause big business' heartburn. Might mean less money for the big wigs and investors if you have to pay a decent wage.

2. Dead wrong about healthcare reform. Corporate America would be off the hook as provider of health, dental, vision etc. insurances that have increased costs in double digits over the past 10 years. Health Insurance companies and their lobbyists, on the other hand, are in PANIC MODE as they see big profits and paychecks disappearing.

3. Politicians that benefitted from big contributions from the Health Insurance industry are crying in their beer knowing that unless they can either stop the bill from passing or water it down sufficiently, the ride is over.

Paying higher wages will only result in lower profits ("more money for the bigwigs and investors") if union companies compete against non-union companies (which would have a competitive advantage over unionized companies because they have less expensive labor). If all competitors in a marketplace were to be highly unionized it would result in higher prices for consumers because the competitive advantage of non-unionized labor would be removed allowing companies to increase their profit margins.

Why hasn't the SEIU come to the table on cutting health care costs in this country? Don't they represent 1 million+ health care workers?

We have seen the pharmaceutical industry, the hospitals, and other stakeholders step forward offer to make sacrifices in order for reform and savings to be achieved. Meanwhile SEIU top priority is wants getting EFCA passed so they can drive health care costs even higher.

the SEIU is highly active in the healthcare fight

I know they are highly active in the health care fight, highly active in pushing congress to act and holding rallies and protests etc.

But my point is for such a major stakeholder, representing a million healthcare workers why haven't they laid out how they can help to reduce costs and make healthcare affordable? We saw the hospitals do this earlier this week, pharmaceutical companies a few weeks ago, and I think the AMA has been engaging in dialog although they haven't come out with any firm commitments.

Where is the SEIU on lowering costs not just demanding action. It seems to me like they are just trying to crack open the washington checkbook.

Business needs to learn that the Second Gilded Age of the last 30 years is over, and that we are in a progressive reform era now. That being the case, workers should no longer be fired for going on strike or trying to join unions, since this country does not want to be like China, Russia, Iran or Honduras.
