Spring Break

Courthouse News:

The first full-time female FBI agent to be stationed at Guantanamo says she was made to bunk with vermin that gave her a tropical disease and was ostracized because she refused to join in a "spring break" atmosphere in which agents were encouraged to drink, date, and frolic when not interrogating alleged terrorists. She says FBI agents attended parties dressed in "mocking imitation of Arab or Afghan attire" and in orange detainee jumpsuits.

So your expectations are that Obama should have been able to undue and reverse the course of 30 years of republican pillaging and destruction in 8 months?

What do you expect. At the time, their own Commander in Chief (President) acted like a frat boy. These guys were kids doing a man's job.

The administration or the agents? Can we even tell the difference?

Their command-in-chief, George W. Bush, was a frat boy, and that culture and attitude have been pervasive from the top down in his administration and approach to the armed forces. Welcome to dumbed-down America, where the prolonged adolescence and pubescent macho swagger summed up by the word "dude" have replaced the necessity, attractiveness and desirability of responsible adulthood, mature manhood, clear thinking and human decency.

They were all drunk too: Drunk with power. The sick power over a helpless human being chained and bound.

It takes a very disturbed person to enjoy that, but clearly these are disturbed and disturbing people and events.

And that is the future, if we do not quickly and forcefully reinstate the Rule of Law.

To date, we have seen no meaningful accountability for some truly dark and dangerous patterns of abuse of power and fundamental breaches of the law, our Constitution, and human rights and decency.

And check history. If those demons are not fully purged from your government and culture, they don't get better. They get far worse, and in time these disturbed people don't need to travel to Gitmo. They can enjoy their dark deeds right here at home in the U.S.

Let's see, the poor helpless Al-Queda terrorists who if left to their devices would kill both Liberals and Conservatives plus anything in between. Well....at least we would have the Rule of Law...six feet under!

I don't think the administration was drunk with power, they knew exactly what they were doing.

Yeah, that's the effin' FBI huh? Playing like a bunch of candy-ass, grab-ass little boys on spring break instead of like the professionals they're suppossed to portraying. Under the influence of alcohol and interogatting prisoners? Using illegal torture techniques after partying and be hungover? That is what we've stooped down to? WHEN ARE BUSH AND CHENEY GOING TO PAY FOR THIS ABOMINATION OF JUSTICE?

If this is what FBI investigators assigned to Gitmo do during their time off, what do you suppose the FBI agents who are engaged in warrantless wiretapping, security "background checks", and surveillance of ordinary citizens under the Patriot Act provisions are doing on their time off?

As sick and creepy as that is, it's probably true.

Psychologically normal people have no desire to torture their fellow humans, and the people that do, should not be walking freely among us, let alone empowered wtih governmental authority to satisfy their sick urges.

Torture is illegal for good reason. Further, despite the b.s. we have heard from our own government on these issues: 1) Following orders is not a defense; and 2) Arguing that the torture was effective is not a defense. To the contrary, both are expressly prohibited as defenses.

People that torture belong in jail, so that they will never be able to hurt other humans.

It is shocking and shameful that the U.S. is ignoring its own laws and international laws on torture.

And now, when we here other countries commiting TORTURE, we do not have FACE to tell them to stop. It is sickening! If hard labor and or torture is used against the jornalist "Ling" in China, we have no right, as BUSH Americans to say Stop. Democrat, Liberals, Progressives do though. Because we all want Bush and Co to be held accountable!

That's what happens when a society loses it moral compass, BECAUSE THE COMPASS
WAS DESTROYED BY THE LEADERS, I pray for the children of the word, we owe them so much
becuase we stole and corrupted and put everything under the sun for sale, so we can drive and wear the latest crap, show off as if life depended on it, continue on this suicidal road and there
will be no planet to talk about, REMEMBER ROME

I hope Ms. Foley gets her jury trial. And the media makes a big deal of it.

I hope the U.S. regains the Rule of Law.

The Bush/Cheney administration spent 8 years setting up a rigged system, in which the Whitehouse controlled all three branches of government.

And honestly, President Obama has not exactly been objecting to the power he inherited from the "Unitary Executive" era.

I guess the only consolation (and its a very hollow, disturbing one) is that all those GOP/neo-con advocates for the absolute power of the President in time of war (incendently assuring that we will also be in a war when that is the condition necessary to exercise such extradinary powers) have really had to eat crow as those powers are no longer in their greedy right wing hands.

I do not follow the story, she asked for a transfer 2003, her claim against Attorney General Eric Holder?

Holder wasn't' the Attorney General at that time.
Muskasey was the AG.

She is taking legal action against the wrong individuals.

She may have asked for a transfer in 2003 and started proceeding thereafter, but since Holder is the present AG, she has to continue her complaint with the CURRENT AG....That's just the way it is... If this goes forward and it is found that the PAST AG ignore her complaint, then THAT AG, along with the FBI and others will be held accountable.. But sadly, that is a big "IF:

Being a FBI interrogator seems like a fun job! I wonder how old these FBI interrogators were. Something tells me some of these guys might be told old to be partying like it is spring break. But really, what else is there to do at Gitmo?
